Pregnant after a Loss

Update, champion of hide and seek (or, how I freaked out in L&D) (MAP)

First, I am so sorry I have been a terrible bumpie as of late.  Work has been insane and, for some reason, mobile bumping won't let me login to post (*shakes fist*).  I lurk pretty much every day, but have not been able to contribute very much. I'm sorry, ladies. I am working towards a big event tomorrow, so I'm hoping once I get past that, I can return to offering more support.

I'll preface this by saying that everything is totally fine:

So, late last week I noticed a definite shift in Mr. BabyPants' movement.  I was still feeling movement, but where it used to be drum solos, it was much more subtle.  I also started feeling really crappy on Friday night and had a touch of pink spotting (just once).  I talked to the doula that is running my birth class and she said it was worth a call to the nurse line. When I called, the nurse conferred with the doc, and the doc said to go to L&D.  So, on Saturday evening, off we went, feeling 99% that things were okay and we were just being overly cautious.

Fast forward to when they hook up the fetal monitor and . . . nothing.  No heartbeat. The nurse fussed with it and I began to get increasingly nervous. Then she called the doc and before I knew it there were four extremely worried looking medical professional faces surrounding my bedside. Doc grabbed the monitor and also could not find anything quickly and demanded a fast ultrasound.  Cue total and complete freak out.

Thankfully, they got the ultrasound machine in, in record time I might add, and found him right away. They did a BPP, which he passed with flying colors.  They ultimately were able to find him on the fetal monitor as well. They ran a strip on me and the doctor reports that I have a precocious overachiever, whose heart tones are that of a 32 week old (I'm 30 weeks).  He also has flipped head down (woohoo!) in the past couple of days, which might explain why the movement feels markedly different.  TOTAL RELIEF.

A week ago we found out this little *ahem* guy is in the 95 percentile for size (*gulp*). Both my fiance and I come from a long line of shorties, so we aren't sure where this enormous baby is coming from (and I have passed all my GD tests).  But, given that he is so freaking huge, WHY this baby is so hard to find on monitors--this is not the first time they have not found him--is beyond me.

Champion hide and seeker? Extreme introvert like his parents? Drama king?

  • Oh, my goodness. I am so sorry you had that scare, but it's great the baby boy is so healthy and doing well in there.

As for the reduced movement, his size and position are probably the culprit. I have no idea how the heartbeat would hide like that, but I am sure there is a simple explanation.

Anyway, I am glad all is well!

  • Thanks so much for all the love, everyone.  I suspect we will have our work cut out for us once he is an outside baby.  Even in our last routinely scheduled growth scan he was hiding from the u/s.  He had one hand over his face, they jiggled me a bit trying to get him to drop it and the other arm came up, jiggled again, and then a foot came up.  Shy and stubborn, apparently, just like his parents. :)
