Weird Skin Redness?

So this weekend, I noticed DD having some random red blotches on her skin...  It would happen any time of the day and I don't think its food related.  For example, I could put my fingertip on her arm for 5 seconds, remove my finger...then about 10 second later, a red area will appear and then it will disappear a couple minutes later.  It was happening all day yesterday - whether we held her, or at nap time she'd wake with blotchy face from having it down on the mattress, or even from her bib around her neck.  No changes to what we're using for detergent, no change in her body wash...and no new foods that I can think of.  Its just very odd.  When they go away, her skin is perfectly smooth as it was - its not welting or leaving any marks, its happening under the skin.

ANY CLUE?  Dr. Google has nothing other than to watch for other signs/reactions...none of which have happened.  Think it warrants a call to the doc or a visit?

This happens to us too. I tend to just think J has super sensitive skin. If I hold him, say around his waist, he's bright red for a few minutes after. It happens with any straps that may touch him, when he sleeps on his cheek, if he lays his head on his arm when he sleeps. It's anything! It's weird. :P

eta: I haven't mentioned this to our doc. I'm not too worried. Like you said.. it goes away in a few minutes. I just figure it doesn't bother him and it goes away so it's okay.

  • LO is a bit blotchy from time to time due to her eczema.... Like pp said, the heat seems to agitate her skin a bit more than normal.

Thanks ladies!  DD had eczema early on but it has cleared up great - I've been used to this porcelain skin!  The redness doesn't seem topical, more underneath...kinda what @TrueBeliever925 was getting to.  But it is getting warmer here and we were outside a lot this weekend, so I'll keep an eye on it for now.  I'm interested to see if daycare notices today.

It's really bizarre. I always feel like people are going to think I abuse him when we go to swim class! He's always all red where I've touched him :P

  • My skin reacts like this. If a seat belt strap rubs me the wrong way, I am all red and blotchy. Also, if I get a little scratch on me, I immediately get a huge welt. It looks like I've been at war, when I just scratched a little itch.

I am also ginger and super pale, and burn really easily.

Thanks ladies!  Daycare did say they noticed it a little, but not too much.  She woke up today with less of it...we shall see.  :-)
