Anyone thinking if starting this with your LO? My SIL did it and her LO did very well with it, so we're thinking about it.... What are your thoughts or experiences? Thanks!!
We did it with DD... I think we started introducing it around 6 months? Hard to remember ">
We weren't overly serious about it... but the words she did know were really, really helpful! We words we did were: Food, milk, water, dog, cat, owie/pain here, tired, please, thank you, mama, dada, and DD's all time favorite - more! Haha.
I'd recommend doing at least some signs to anyone!
I am all about teaching them sign language. I used it in my classroom of 1 year olds before I became a SAHM. I have already started with LO a bit. It will help so much when he is older and can tell me what he needs but doesn't have the words yet! The words we will teach him are more, eat, please, thank you, all done, mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, and when I sing him the ABCs I do the signs for the letters.
I don't think you really need a book or a dvd. Just google baby sign language and you will get everything you need.
I'm a sign language interpreter and will definitely be signing with my girls. I second the Signing Times series. The original series with Alex and Leah (deaf) was filmed locally to me and was created by Leah's mom. It's very cute, but also accurate ( some sources don't have good language models). Aslpro.com is a good website for vocabulary words.
