If a family member will be watching your LO...

I know we are so lucky to have my MIL caring for DS when I go back to work. It saves so much money, and I know she loves him to death so she will take good care of him.

BUT I can't help but feel upset when it comes to this situation. I do want to go back to work, I love what I do. But I can't help but feel jealous of MIL. I feel like DS is going to like/know her more. And I feel like I'm never going to be able to bond with him anymore. I feel like when he's upset, I'm not going to know what to do and she will. We see them a lot, so not only will she get to be with him during the week, she will get to see him all the other times we do family things, too. And she calls him "my baby" and says things like "Grammy knows what you need". It makes me so sad.. I'm trying to fight back tears right now.

Does anyone else who is in this situation have these feelings?

MIL is watching my son too. I 1000000% had the same feelings until I actually went back to work. While I'm still jealous it was easier once I was actually at work knowing that he is getting all the snuggles all day and will never be in need of love. I also liked that I can trust her to tell me if something happened. The smile I got when I came home after day 1 made it all worth it to me. This is my third week and believe me it gets easier although it'll never be easy!

  • You're always going to be mama! That's never going to change. My ILs watch dd and will watch both kids 2 days/wk when I go back to work. My dd adores her grandparents. I'm glad she knows them so well, because they won't be around forever (they're in their 70s). I have my moments of jealousy but I've gotten over it with time. They're always my kids, I will always be their mommy, and I will always be their "favorite," ya know?

  • My mil watched my first two kids when i worked full time and i had those same fears. You will always be the best! The smiles, hugs and kisses will be the best ones saved just for you. Nothing was sweeter than walking in and having them run and hug me at the end of the day.

  • You know my ds was kept by my mom and sister until he was 20 months...but for some reason his facile family member other than me and my husband is my younger sister-not the one who watched him. Your baby is always going to look forward to you coming home. Remember to that at this age your baby sleeps a lot. You aren't missing as much as you think right now. Of course you'd rather be there but there will be w good deal of downtime now.
