I cannot burp my baby...

DD is 2 weeks old, and from day one I have never been able to burp her. DH can do it sometimes, but not all the time.

I've tried sitting her on my knee with her chin resting in my hand, and leaning her forward while patting her back, but that only lasts for about 5 seconds before she starts screaming.

I've tried over the shoulder but can't seem to get her to stay up, she keeps sliding down to my chest.

I've also tried laying her on my knees stomach down.

I swear, nothing works. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or what, but in very frustrated and feel like a failure. I can't even burp my own kid.

Please give me your advice! She's cranky due to the gas bubbles, and I feel like I can't help her!

DS was really hard to burp for like the first 3 weeks. It gets better. Now I barely have to try. It's so frustrating though because you know they have to burp and it won't come up.

Brooke was really hard to burp at first and wouldn't burp. Now she's 6.5wks and does it no problem- sometimes even on her own. Hang in there it'll get better!

Brynn is also only two weeks old and tough to burp. She is getting better, but I've realized it only happens when she's ready, no matter what I do. Sometimes it takes a half hour. Just keep trying! I know with DD1 it got better as she got older

Try bicycle legs. It won't yield a burp, but my kid farts way more than he burps and that helps to pass the gas that way.

My kid is hard to burp too. Over the shoulder works best for us because it puts pressure on his belly to help the burp come up.

This. While I have her sitting while holding her front I pat her back several times then rub her back several times. It takes a few cycles but usually get good results.

I've had good luck supporting J's head and bouncing him on my knee followed by over the shoulder back-patting. I've found that if he's tense he won't burp, sometimes a massage helps calm him so I can get him to burp. Gas drops are my friend and bicycle legs for farts. It does get better.

This is how we burp. We have to rub her back and then pat over the shoulder, but I pat in an upward motion. Works like a charm.

My LO is a tough burper as well. He's a month old and is still kind of tough to burp. We try the different positioning ways and alternate between patting and rubbing. He usually just burps on his way when I'm switching positions. Or he'll fart out the gas. He's a great farter!

Same here, MH can burp LO with ease but he will not burp for me... which is odd because I work in a nursury and usually have no problem.

Gas drops help us. We also do sitting forward like you, or I lay her on my chest and pat and rub her back. We have also been successful with a gently leaning her back then forward again to move the gas around. Sometimes she wont burp until I have her completely vertical like when I'm walking her around.

No, she doesn't seem uncomfortable. She usually ends up farting out the gas eventually. I guess I just always thought they should burp after a feeding. We are BF but my supply sucks, so we've been supplementing with formula, as well as pumping to ramp up my supply and replace the formula feeds.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Yesterday was a rough day, and I was feeling overwhelmed and defeated. Today is a new day!

DS is 4 weeks old and still not a good burper but he is a great little farter. No matter what I do I cannot get him to burp after most feeds but then he'll give some huge farts about 30 mins later
