OMG WITCHING HOUR IS BACK, ANYONE ELSE!?

Oh sorry, was I yelling?

Apparently that is ALL WE ARE DOING TONIGHT IN THIS HOUSE!

What's everyone else up to tonight? Playing happily with obedient babies?

Re: OMG WITCHING HOUR IS BACK, ANYONE ELSE!?

  • We still suffer from witching hour pretty frequently but luckily LO is content right now.  It's also helpful that during witching hour my DH is at work.  It's usually a grand ole time!

She has indeed been up since the butt crack of dawn. We were up and chatting from 3:30 - 4:30, then she fell back asleep until 5:15, and has taken 3 mini naps since then.

But THANK GOD she just passed out. After refusing a bottle just minutes beforehand, she attacked it like she was starving to death, and passed out mid-suck.

I thought we were past the witching hour nonsense! Bah!

I read this several times, wondering why it would be helpful for YH to be at work? Does he annoy you? Does he upset LO? Is it easier to soothe a baby when he's ok.

And then I thought, "because sarcasm?" . Because so tired. We don't have a WH here, but a double dose of wakefuls

  • We ALWAYS struggle with an evening nap. By the time she gives in it's too late for a "nap" ugh! Ours is a timing thing. She's almost always asleep or getting close to it when DH gets her from daycare which is only 5 mins from home so a nap in the car doesn't really happen. She usually wakes up as soon as he gets her out of the car and into the house. So the nap fighting begins there. Tonight she took a 30 min nap while I washed dishes. And currently sleeping on me and of course it's 8pm when her bedtime is usually 9:30. We'll see how this goes!

  • At exactly 5:00 every night for a week now. The second the clock changes. It's creepy as fuck. She looses her shit. Oy.
What times does your LO go down for the night?

  • Yes. Since 12:45pm. No big nap. Not enough naps. Not happy on play may, exersaucer, swing, bouncy chair, bumbo, etc etc etc.

  • YES!!!

We never really went through the whole WH thing early on, because she slept right on through until I woke her up for a bath, bottle, and then right back to bed for the night. Now that she's getting older and staying awake more, look out!

It doesn't help that LO is just like @broccoli's_girl's LO right now with the whole no-napping thing. She barely sleeps all day and by the time I have to be making dinner, she is ticked! I want to eat, no I don't, don't you dare put me down, no don't hold me! Ack! All I want to do is finish making dinner!

No idea why the font changed...second time that's happened to me today :-/

  • Every time I lay LO down there is instant screaming. Every fucking time. Every fucking night. This happens for two hours after my first attempt to lay him down for the night regardless of what time I start trying. I want to murder my FingH who is never home in the evenings.
  • We have another nap striker over here. Yesterday was an hour of unholy screaming every time I tried to set her down, mad "put me down!" Squirm each time I picked her up.

She then took 3 beautiful naps of at least 30 min for my mom today. Stinker. :-P

<------ still has yet to truly experience one BUT the poor poor neighbors have a baby that likes to witching hour party- ALOT so I seriously seriously give all you lady's props! Yes my LO still wakes ALOT to eat, snuggle or comfort suck but it's just the little "Eigh eigh" type of crying, which 2 cups of coffee can pretty much fix ((Hugs)) I can see (2nd hand) how mentally draining this is to you guys.

LO FIGHTS naps these days.  Scream cries and requires soothing to get to sleep.  DH can't even handle it, he always ends up handing the baby to me.

But of course LO doesn't do it when my mom is keeping him.

We're taking her cues and she seems to be wanting to go down about an hour earlier than she had been previously, so now we start bathtime around 530-545 and she's ko'd by 6, then about 40 minutes later she wakes up drowsy and downs a huge feed, then she's out for 12-13 hours with one additional drowsy feed around 1 am. I can't complain too much but it kinda sucks having her go down so early, but she's telling us that's what she needs. When we bumped bedtime up an hour she went from waking up at 430 am to sleeping until 630 am so...SOLD to the lady with purple bags under her eyes!
@tyrannosauruslex I just saw this! It's so weird to me how putting them down earlier actually helps them sleep longer. I mean I believe it, but it makes no sense to my logical brain.

I've been trying to get better about sensing her cues. The minute I see a yawn, or she starts rubbing her eyes, I prepare for the sleep fight. It's actually helped with naps, too - I try to get her in sleep mode ASAP rather than wait it out. And weirdly, I've found that with naps she prefers to soothe herself to sleep rather than have me hold her. I normally plop her in the swing, give her a paci and something to hold, and stand there until she nods off. (If I walk away she freaks out, but if I just stand there like a moron, she'll go to sleep. So odd.)

Night time is a whole different ball game though. I'm dreading the rest of the week when my H will be working late!
