Team Purple MoM: organizing closet?

We are starting to work on the nursery for our b/g twins. But I'm stumped on the closet. It already has two bars to hang clothes- one on each side. Should one side be his and the other hers? We have a bunch of hand me down boy clothes already- but I don't see why she can't wear most of it too, though, so I'm hesitant to separate it all up. What about matchy outfits people buy for both kids- keep together or put them on separate sides? I have a feeling I am over thinking this..

We were also thinking about getting some bins for under the clothes in the closet. Should I keep other stuff (onesies, socks, hats, etc) in separate boy/girl bins or no? I'd rather not do a lot of unnecessary sorting of laundry if I don't have to. Just curious about what has worked for you!!

Re: Team Purple MoM: organizing closet?

  • We separated the gender specific, his on the left and hers on the right in the closet.  Then everything that was gender neutral we put in the middle.  I did the same thing in the dresser, Sock & onesie drawer has boy stuff on one side, girl stuff on the other with neutral/white in the middle.  Then they both have a drawer of their gender specific stuff.

One of my friends bought us the closet dividers (2 sets) that have the sizes on it too so we organized the closet by size.

How this all works out when they actually come is to be determined but I'm big on organization so it's made me feel better having everything sorted for now.

  • I would do boy on one side, girl on the other. As for neutral things (white onesies, socks, swaddles, blankets, etc) I would put bins underneath or use a dresser.

  • We have everything divided by size and then subdivided by boy/girl. Even in the dresser where all the onesies are in one stack, it's not hard to grab which one I want. Take it with a grain of salt since the babies are so new (6 weeks old tomorrow) but it's worked ok so far.

  • I separate everything by gender (one side of the closet for each baby) and also have separate drawers for each.  Over time, you won't have as many gender neutral items so you'll need room for both babies in the closet and the dresser.

  • I am an evil mom and they all just got to share clothes. :) They are all just organized by size!
