In regards to the moms who work from home thread

I would love to be able to work from home to bring in some extra money and feel like I contribute financially. But I have no idea what I could do from home? I have my bachelors in elementary education. Any suggestions? What do you ladies do?

  • I just signed up with the site tutors.com to try and do some online tutoring in the evenings for some extra cash. No idea if it's good or not since I just signed up but maybe something to check out? It's very part time though, just a few hours a week.

  • Just a suggestion, maybe tutoring kids who are having hard time learning to read?? Or math? Advertise with your local school or even Craigslist?

  • Tutoring is a good suggestion if there's a market for it in your area. I'm a teacher, and I used to work in an affluent area where parents would shell out big bucks for tutors. Now I'm at a school in a poor farming community, and some of the high school students volunteer as tutors but no one would ever pay for it because they can hardly pay for food. Know your audience, but you can definitely make good money doing that if you find the right place.

  • I used to have a home daycare, and I taught the kids how to read and write - all of the kids I've cared for were prepared for kindergarten. My state allowed for 2 full-time children or 5 part-time children. I filled up my spots so fast, and I was never without work. When one kid moved on to preschool or kindergarten, I had a waiting list of new babies and toddlers that needed me. I loved it and the kids are all still very special to me. If you have any interest in that, you can contact your local family planning places or your state government. Even though I charged lower than average rates for my area, I made a lot of money (but, I wasn't doing it for the money, I loved it).

  • I'm a wellness coach and I do real estate- title insurance in Virginia. There is a great company called working solutions that is just project based tele work from home and a ton of moms do it! I am on leave from that as I just signed up a month before I was due and haven't been able to do the required 20 hours a week for the particular project I was on. I searched forever to find them though and I guess they are really reputable! None of that pay to work nonsense either- you get paid FOR work you do. My other jobs I've had for years and just morphed into jobs I do on my own time. Got super lucky there for sure.
