Breastfeeding

Pumping and work

I just started back at work today.  I alternate breasts when I breastfeed so I just pump one side at a time which I did three times today.  I only pumped about 3 oz in about 15 minutes which is what I have for a break time.  Is there a typical amount that an 8 week old eats?  Will the 3 oz bottles be enough?  I do have a frozen stash in case but should I try pumping longer to get more?

Re: Pumping and work

  • The pump is rarely going to be as efficient as your LO - so I'd definitely pump both sides and see what you get from that.

My LO ate 3oz bottles every 2-3 hours until he was about 5 months, so it could be that 3oz is just fine for your LO, as long as you're able to pump as often as your LO eats.

  • My almost 11 month olds take 3 3oz bottles/day at daycare. But every baby is different.
