First Birthday Party Budget

Our little ones birthdays are approaching fast. As you plan the party, do you have a budget? Please share so I can have a better idea of how much to limit myself.

Hadn't thought about a budget until I read this. Not too worried. :D DH doesn't need to know the total... ;)
  • No specific budget in mind. I don't think we're going to do anything too crazy, but there will be a lot of people so it won't be cheap either. The biggest expense will definitely be food/snacks/drinks for all the guests.

  • No budget per se but when all is said and done, I have a feeling we will probably spend maybe $300. That's for 30 guests plus 15 kids.

What's this budget thing you speak of? If it's the hottest new baby gadget I need to get like 17 for my little princess.

Pretty much this. She only has one first birthday. I say DO IT BIG!
In all seriousness, I will probably spend more on her pics and props/outfits for those than the actual party itself. And her party is going to be freaking awesome.

    I have an etsy problem.

  • I agree with @texasmomma13‌ I have an etsy addiction. We will prob spend a decent amount but the majority will be on food and alcohol. This lil baby's bday will be an awesome party.
  • I'm not really understanding how what we're spending effects what you want to spend? Does it really matter? Or are you just nosey about others finances?

  • Biggest costs will be food, drinks and cake - guessing $200 or less because there will only be about 8 adults and 4 babies/toddlers.
    Possibly new outfit for LO.
Decorations probably just some balloons and streamers - $30 or so for that.
Oh, and gifts bags for the other babies and toddlers attending.

I am definitely not nosey. Hubby dared me to do it under $100 and I agreed but now I am like wtf lol
  • Feeling screwed. We live in SF so there is no space to do it here. I booked the park for $30. I have to convince him that cannot count as part of my budget. Guess I will be hitting up the dollar store.

What has to be included in the $100? Venue, food, cake, decorations, outfit, 1 year pictures, cake smash stuff?
  • I am thinking everything else besides the venue. Counting the seconds until he gets home. I am getting a headache. Food will be the main chunk. I will be hitting the dollar store and see what I can come up with. I didn't even think of professional pics.
  • I'll help you come up with ideas to cut some corners.
Have the party at 2 or 3 so you can serve finger food snacks. You could cut up some fruits and veggies for a platter, chips, kool-aid. You can make a cake or cupcakes yourself.
  • Love those ideas. I will be using them.
  • If you decide to do a meal let me know. I have a couple of go-to recipes that are on the cheaper side I could give you.
  • No budget, we are kind of slacking on planning the party itself so I am no help.

  • I don't think I'll come in under $100. But mine may be close. Not sure.. We are doing our party in the afternoon. Theme is pink lemonade. So the snacks and drinks should be pretty simple to follow that theme. I chose a non-commercialized theme so I could just stick with a color scheme and go cheap in certain areas. I'm not doing a professional photog. I just personally am not into it. And truthfully don't have the budget for it. I am also doing what some others are doing and buying as I go. Her outfit is purchased. The cake mix and icing is purchased. And part of the party favors are purchased. Good luck! I have faith that it can be done!

  • No budget, haven't been keeping a tally. I've bought a ton from the dollar store and Target's dollar bin. Between that and Hobby Lobby, Michaels, & AC Moore coupons I don't think I've paid full price for anything yet. Also lots of DIY going on here.

Good luck. Our cake alone cost more than that.

  • I never really thought about a budget. Mostly because we don't really do extravagant parties. DS1 and DS2 are both august birthdays so we are doing combined parties until they start to care.

I make the cake so that's cheap, I love doing it and decorating cakes is so fun! And thanks to Pinterest ideas I've gotten pretty good at it. Summer birthdays are easy because we don't have to rent a venue, so we do a backyard BBQ bash. Hamburgers and hot dogs, cheap. Potato salad, cheap. I dunno. I could totally do it for less than $100.

Next year probably not though. We are planning on renting on Bouncy House for their 2nd and 4th combo party.
     DS1 8/2011. DS2 8/2013.

  • There's no budget here either. We started an account solely for ds's first birthday party when he was born. I have a feeling we'll be going beyond what's already in there, lol

I'd be utterly screwed with that budget.
Yeah, I've spent more than that on paper products alone.

DH has no clue about our money...I manage it all, but I haven't set side a special budget - just fitting it into my normal monthly budget.  Rather than spending money on me, I'm spending it on the party.  The massage I REALLY want will wait until August.  :-)  We aren't having a large party, but I want to make it great for DD and those that come.
  • Yea... I'm Team No Budget. And we're crazy budgeters over here. I like to go over the top for birthdays.

  • No set budget.  It will be at our house, I plan on getting/making cheap decorations and the food will be all BBQ stuff, so not too expensive.  All the kids attending with the exception of one will be under 2 years old, so no need for elaborate party games or favors.  I did get paper invitations printed rather than doing an evite.
