excited for grocery shopping..WFD

Found out we have a nice lil nest egg growing and a new raise plus some big sales came in.

Mama can buy all the pretentious cheese and butter. Or golden Oreos.

Whatever, I am stoked to fill the fridge with yummy food for the week!

What's on your meal plans????

  • Dh is on nights this week so I get off easy. I'm planning on throwing some turkey meatballs and spaghetti squash in the crockpot tonight to cook for ds and I for Monday and Tuesday nights. Other than that, I've got nothing.

I've rendered myself temporarily out of commission when it comes to cooking right now. My poor DH has been fending for himself. My poor DS has been eating a lot of pasta with butter, ravioli, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, and frozen veggies (with butter..but hey, at least he eats them, right?).

Im hoping to pick up cooking again when food aversions/nausea have hopefully subsided!

But you ladies always give me awesome ideas!

  • Tonight: steak with salad, sweet potato for DH, and roasted broccoli for me
Tomorrow: Out for Father's Day (DH wanted to avoid crowds)
Tuesday: BBQ chicken sandwiches with pasta salad
    Wednesday:turkey meatloaf
Thursday: baked chicken with veggies (probably roasted broccoli again--holy cow that was good)
Friday:  Either freezer meal like ravioli or out...not sure
  • Spaghetti and meatballs
    Spicy turkey enchiladas
    Cheeseburgers and tots
    Homemade pizzas
    Garlic shrimp Alfredo
    Homemade chicken pot pie

Hoping to stick to this menu. We've been spending way to much money eating out recently.
  • @Whenigrowup‌ ive never done roasted broccoli - same principals as any other roasted veggie? Any seasoning recommendations?

I tossed it with olive oil, salt and pepper and roasted it at 425 for 20-25 minutes until it begins to brown on the edges. I have also dressed it with lemon juice and Parmesan before, but tonight was just salt and pepper....mmmmmmmm....

  • Hey credcat - so we are going to try to make our own pizzas to freeze this week, on top of the regular round of meals. Tonight, DH is going to make this bacon, charred brussel sprouts and quinoa dish that I really like. I hate brussel sprouts and this thing is the bomb. The rest of the week will involve a few simple pasta dishes, an Indian dish and, provided I'm successful tonight - a pizza :)
  • @credcat7 congrats on the golden oreo option btw. Budget is still tight over here. Was thinking of maybe joining the CSA. Supposedly, the one here is much easier on the budget.

Not sure what CSA is? But I am so happy to see you posting! I miss the period in our BMB

  • hey there - what can I say dude, you are missed.

CSA stands for "community supported agriculture". There are tonne of them in CA, but I'm not sure if they go by the same term. Basically, you pay a membership fee to a local farm or a cooperative that gets food from a number of nearby farms, and then, for a monthly fee they either send you food in a box directly, or pack a box of food for you to pick up. In some cases there is no monthly fee and you go to some nearby location and pick out the things you want for a seriously, seriously reduced price.

The fee structures and selection vary considerably from CSA to CSA. In one city I lived in all the CSAs charged an annual fee, and then on a few days a week you could stop by a church or something of the like and pick out what you wanted for a reduced price. I remember seeing sweet potatoes for 12 cents a pound, for example. I mean, some prices were seriously reduced.

In my last town, the "farm" was actually roof top hot houses and the CSA, you could choose what you wanted a week in advance and the pick up locations were all over the city.

In the case of my current town I'm surrounded by agri-land. There are a lot of CSAs and they compete for business, so there are a lot of options for pick up, delivery and otherwise.

The Bay area has some pretty amazing options, actually. I wonder if there might be one that has a wine selection too :)
