Working Moms

is it possible to run a home business while pregnant an even after

I am interested in hearing other moms who have, an are working their own business weather it be at home are else where.
My husband an I recently relocated for his job an We bought our first house. It was hard for me to leave my old job as a groomer it was not something. I could transfer to. So we decided together to start my own business. My husband an I really want to have a baby an know we are ready for one, but I also really want to start my own grooming salon, an part of me feels if I hold off on it now an have a child, that possibility. May never come again. My husband. Believes. That we will be fine opening my own business. While we have young ones.
I have started a part time job just till my business has a steady amount of clients to where I will not need the extra job. An the bright side is I will be working from home so I will be near the child. At the end of the day I'm just afraid I'll lose this opportunity (even though my husband says I will not) I just would like to hear other stories from moms who have tried an maybe that will give me better insight.
Thanks so much

  • Doable?  Sure.  But you'll need to think through how to cover regular clients during a "maternity leave" and you will need someone else in the house on kid duty while you're working.

I would also think VERY carefully about the logistics of having small children in a home with strange dogs, who may be dealing with the anxiety of being in a new place and being groomed.  I would want it set up so that the dogs were always a securely locked door away from the children, and there was no chance of a small child wandering into your grooming space.

  • Oh Ya for su're we thought all that out, we transformed the garage into a salon, it Has its own sperate. Entenernce so those clients would not be going thru the house, my mother would take care of child while I was working,. I've thought all that threw. My worry was if it was doable thanks. So much for your input!
  • I run my own business but I rent office space outside the home and have full time child care. I think if you wanted to do it part-time and your mom was able to watch your child while you do the grooming, clean up, care for the animals and schedule appointments it could be fine. You would definitely need her help for more than just the time that you are grooming though. You have to spend time marketing your business and communicating with clients to make your business sustainable.
