Gagging baby

The past week my 11 week old son keeps gagging him self on the bottle. He gagges and then throws up. He's totally fine after it happens no fever nothing's different except once a day he gags himself and throws up!! I called the pedi and there having him be seen today. I worried FTM has anyone else had this happen??

Re: Gagging baby

  • Is it possible he is not hungry and that is how he reacts?

  • Yes my daughter does it too. I'm thinking its bc she had enough to eat ?
  • Is it a slow flow bottle? When my milk comes in it can gag my son because it starts flowing too fast. I have started feeding in a reclined position so that he is higher than the nipple and the flow slows down. Maybe try a different nipple?
  • E does this when she is tired and thinks she wants to eat, but really just needs to suck on something, so i pop the pacifier in.

  • im currently using the slow flow nipple and doctor brown bottles. Maybe I'm confusing him needing to suck on something vs being hungry?? But he's pushing the bottle and passi away with his toung

You never know, but it's always good to check with the dr to rule out any medical issues.

  • My little guy has reflux, he does this and sometimes chokes/stops breathing. We switched bottles to a slower flow (Dr. Brown 1s were too fast) and pace his feeding, it seems to have helped.

This. He's on Zantac right now. We use the playtex nurser drop ins with slow flow nips & it seems to work great. Definitely nurse/feed him sitting up right & it makes a big difference.
