Colic Mom Survivor Stories

LO will be 8 weeks on Thursday. A little more than halfway to this magic 12 weeks I keep hearing about. Colic baby mom survivors tell me there is hope.

Just when we thought DD was making progress, she is right back to where she started - cranky and unhappy all the time. *Sigh*

  • Ughhhh right there with you it is brutal!

  • LO is at 12 weeks now and she is starting to have less bad nights(1 or 2) and the screaming periods are shorter. Usually she calms down now after an hour of screaming instead of 3 or 4. She's still a fussy and clingy baby but it's getting better.

  • I know I have it nowhere near as bad as I've heard it could be. Like 12-14 hours of constant crying was my friend's daughter. My LO cries probably for 1.5 hours during the 2 to 3 hours she is awake between naps. She usually sleeps well at night, but recently she's been very restless in her sleep, like she is having gas pain/stomach issues. So she doesn't get good rest at night and during the day she fights the hell out of naps! What is killing me is her need to be perpetually in motion. Either in the carriage, or the car or in the carrier. She just can't not be fussy or in motion for 1 minute. I'm forever exhausted, unshowered and in pajamas.
  • I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. DD had reflux and colic and I used to wake up every day with this feeling of dread. But every day she got older sucked less than the day before haha. We swore we would never have another LO and here we are..DD 18 mos and DS 2 mos! He isn't a walk in the park either so I've accepted that DH and I just so not breed easy going children LOL. To get him to sleep is a 30 minute act at least. My cousin had a baby same day and she was holding her, bunch of loud noise around, and the baby just fell asleep just like that. No paci or anything. I was so jealous I wanted to punch her!! I hope it gets easier for you very soon. DD I think was like 4 mos before easier but she was also 5 wks premature.
  • My LO just went through a horrible week and a half of nonstop screamfests that lasted 3-5 hrs. Nothing satisfied this lil guy. I was crying right along with him. He'd finally pass out and then be exhausted the next day....then repeat.
He is going on 8 wks now and he seems a bit better. He does still cry when fighting sleep at night. Gripe water helped alot with the gas.
  • I've actually started therapy for PPD too so my therapist tells me to take DD out for a walk. I'm out with her for an hour and a half walking my neighborhood and when does she fall asleep? At 6 pm just as we pull into the driveway! I guess it's good 'cause I can nap myself, but bad because yesterday she slept from 5 pm to 1 am and I don't want to start that! We were on a good 10 pm bed time schedule, MOTN feedings at 3 am and then at 6 am.
  • DD1 was "colicky" until 5.5 months. When I read The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems, I realized that maybe it wasn't colic, but rather her personality. This was a game changer for me. She became much less cranky at about 5mos, but she is still a "touchy" kid at 3.5 years, with a lot of anxiety. I now know that routine is crucial for her, and new experiences need a lot of hand holding. It does get better, but don't put a time frame on it. I kept thinking that it would get better at 3 mos, but 3 mos came and went with no change.
