Cloth Diapering

Newborn Prefold ??

So I'm still pregnant with my 1st and I got a big stash of used diapers/covers and prefolds early on... The only thing I'm worried about is that my prefolds seem so small! I know that reg prefolds shrink up, but what size were your newborn prefolds? I don't know what brand they are but they measure about 10x12 inches... Does that sound good or in line with normal for a newborn size?

Re: Newborn Prefold ??

  • Imagine Smartfit prefolds in size xs 4-10 lbs shrink down to 10.5 x 11.5.  GMD's Cloth-eez prefolds in xs 6-10 lbs shrink down to 11 x 11.  So that sounds right.

  • Our NB prefolds were huge on our 6 pounder. I actually orderd preemie after he was born. I didn't snappi them much, though.

  • NBs really are that small. They don't fit too long, but when they are so tiny it is nice to have something that actually fits.

  • I also think nb prefolds are actually huge on newborns and like to start with premie.

@doeie04‌ If you don't snappi, how do you put them on?

  • I don't know if there is a name for it, but I basically tri-folded them, but flaired the back out. He pooped a little all the time, so he didn't have massive poos all at once, usually.

I had 3 covers for the first month or so and I would wash them in the sink if I needed to. He was in those small covers, NB bummis super brite, for way longer than I thought he would.

  • Our NB GMD prefolds were so bulky on our LO at first, my husband refused to use them. But now he is almost 9 pounds and they fit really well - getting a bit tough to do up angle wing style, but luckily we have boingos because a small snappi wouldn't stretch.

I prefer a trimmer fit, so I'd rather they be a bit small on him (but still function, obviously) than be super bulky on his butt.
