Ring sling recommendations have popped up in general carrier posts but I'm hoping that there are some ladies with experience trying multiple brands. I have an Ergo but want to add a ring sling (will also most likely be adding a k'tan). I currently have a 17 month old DD. Any feedback or advice? Price is not an issue. There isn't much I need to buy for this baby so I am willing to pay more if it will get me a better product. I will probably start using it now to carry DD on my hip and keep her from tearing up stores. I can't carry her comfortably any other way right now and she is refusing to ride in carts. Thanks ladies!
Re: Ring sling recommendations
@enitsirkz - how does a wrap conversion sling differ from a soft sided carrier? The pictures I've seen of wrap conversions just look similar to Ergos.
I've looked at maya wraps and just discovered the Sakura Blooms and I'm not sure if there is something better about them or if the cost has to do with them being more trendy.
Obviously I'm not enitsirkz but I'll answer. The wrap conversions you are seeing are full or half buckle conversions. There are also mei tai conversions. Basically a woven wrap is used and converted to a different style carrier so a wrap conversion ring sling is just a ring sling made out of a woven wrap. Wrap conversion ring slings are my favorite as they are the most supportive. However, because there are so many brands and blends of woven wraps it can get overwhelming to choose one. I would suggest trying to find one you love the look of in 100% cotton for a beginner. Also you can go to a meeting if there is a group near you. You can find a list of BWI chapters at babywearinginternational.org. Then you can try on a couple different ones. Another thing with ring slings is there are different shoulder styles. My personal favorite is pleated, but some people prefer gathered or eetsi, and Maya ring slings have padded shoulders.
The other cool thing about Rockin Baby is that for every sling purchased, they donate a sling to a mother in Haiti. They're kind of expensive but they do run on Zulily every now and then. You could sign up to be notified next time they're on sale.
I wish I was able to try them on to test the different shoulders but the baby wearing group meetings are mostly during the week and most of the slings are checked out.
