STMs - cloth or leather car seats?

Please tell me your experiences and thoughts with either cloth or leather seats and LO's (messes, etc). I'm getting a new car soon, and I've only ever had cloth, so I have no experience with leather. Or with a kiddo in the car for that matter

Additional info for reference.. We'll likely be keeping the car for ~10 years, at least I hope to. Also, it's typically pretty warm where I live from May through September with triple digits common in the summer. Thanks!

Re: STMs - cloth or leather car seats?

  • I have leather and love it. All it needs is a quick wipe for messes.
I have a seat cover as well, and I went to the police station to get the car seat installed and inspected and they said it was 100% fine.
They said no mirrors to view child and no added infant head support that didn't come with the carseat.
  • Loading the player...
  • They still make cloth car interior? Who knew!

I would get leather or I actually have pleather {Mercedes makes something called MB-Tex which is pleather basically} and it's great for spills...which we do often.

Thanks for the input all. I'm ok with dirt and wear and tear that comes with having a boy. My main concern is something like milk or puke soaking in and stinking up the car.

@Ashleynh5‌ Yeah, car seats in the car. Leather baby car seats sound simultaneously weird and fancy.

Speaking of fancy, @KateMW‌, they still have cloth seats in cars for us plebs ;). You live in the south, right? Any issues with hot seats? I don't have covered parking at work, or at least no guarantee of a covered spot.
  • LOL I have pleather seats, that's hardly fancy! I honestly haven't seen a new car with cloth seats in forever! My seats aren't super hot...but they're not cool. I have black interior in a grey car too.

@Katemw We must not car shop at the same places, though there was a Mercedes dealership right next to the Suburu one I was at :). I'm pretty utilitarian when it comes to cars. Don't get me wrong, I like to drool over fancy, sporty cars, but if I were to spend more money on one, I would probably go with a Volvo lol (but seriously).
  • LOL I'm shocked Subarus even have cloth!
  • Oh and every Volvo I've seen has leather/pleather too! :((
  • Just to add, since you said 10years, the heat will not bother LO in a carseat as long as you cover it with a blanket, however once LO gets old enough for a booster (which will happen before 10 years) heat does become an issue in leather.

    I still prefer leather though.
