TTC After a Loss

Intro (Again)

I believe i intro'd here awhile back but was not very active and haven't been on here for months. Quick background:

- Began TTC last July, BFP after one month of TTC (shocked!)
- MC at 8 weeks
- Began seeing a new OBGYN at the end of the year who tested my thyroid and results came back with high TSH and sent to endocrinologist
- Started both a T3 and T4 thyroid med, TSH level after couple months down to 1.5
- Getting tested again next week. Assuming I am still under 2.5 on my TSH, we are cleared to TTC ... Pretty much a year exactly from when we started.

I am half excited and half terrified to start to TTC again. The last year has been a tough one but I think I am finally emotionally ready to start again. Hopefully we will have an easy time getting pregnant again but know to manage my expectations.

I'm wondering what all you would recommend doing to prepare to TTC? I take my thyroid meds (one of which I will have to get off when I get pregnant again), prenatal with DHA, B12 and D3. Any other recommendations? I track my cycle through Ovia (have since January) and am pretty regular at 27-28 days. I have not tried temping or OPKs as I am regular and seem to have a good idea of when I ovulate (EWCM, cramping, day 14-16 is when we conceived last time) but may venture into it if I don't get pregnant quickly. Anything else you all recommend?

Thanks for reading ... Hoping to learn a lot!

Welcome to the board, so sorry for your loss.

I'll start out with saying that you shouldn't assume you're O'ing. Even if you think you know your body, it's a crazy thing and can throw you curve balls. The best way to know is to chart/opks. I don't chart, but I use digital opks and my last cycle was monitored with u/s so I knew. Lots of women on the board chart, and swear by it. Only you will know when you're ready to TTC again.

Also, when you get the time could you change your avatar to something so we can identify you by that? :)

Good luck, and check out the blog and sticky on the main board. They're both full of great info.

  • Welcome and so sorry for your loss.  I hope you don't have to stay here long.  Honestly, I would just start temping.  That's really the only way to know for sure if you're ovulating and it's good way to learn exactly what your body does.  You may get pregnant quickly or you may not.  You will be glad if a few months from now, if you're still trying, that you've started to learn and get a pattern of exactly what your cycle does, trust me!  Good luck and big (((hugs)))

I'm sorry for your loss, welcome to the board.

I just started temping this cycle, I never did it before, figured I knew my cycle well enough and honestly told myself it wouldn't be worth it bc it takes a few months to see a pattern and I hoped I'd get pg quickly. Now I'm wishing I had started back in Dec when we started trying again. So I hope your stay here is short but I'd recommend just starting now

    PgAL welcome

  • Welcome. Sorry for your loss. I don't temp, but most ladies here do swear by it. I used an OPK when I got pregnant the first time and it worked for me. Currently I am not using anything, but like you I will start charting if I am not getting results. Do what you are comfortable with. If you are very serious and want to know what your body is doing charting is the best way. If you want a semi-serious approach use an OPK. If you are going the laid back way continue what you are doing. Good luck! I hope your stay is short and sweet.

  • So sorry for your loss.
  • So sorry for your loss but welcome to the board.  As the other ladies have said I find temping to be really helpful.  There is so much we can't control in this journey and temping makes me feel like I am getting the most knowledge I can in order to advocate for myself with doctors.  I use the Fertility Friend app on my phone which makes it super easy.  Hope your stay is short and sweet and your tests come back good next week.
