Insurance covers the breast pump but not the bag

I am getting the Medela starter kit through insurance which includes the Pump In Style® Advanced double electric breastpump.  It does not come with the bag.  Is there something special about the Medela bags that would warrant buying one for $100+ (according to the Medela website) or would any generic tote bag work just fine?
Thanks!

  • You don't need the bag. Save your money.

  • NO NO NO! :) nothing special whatsoever! I would take this opportunity to get yourself a cute tote or just use one of your existing bags. The Medela bag is just a boring, old, black bag.
  • great!  That's what I suspected.  :)

weeklyplanner, I thought about calling around, but I have been trying to keep things simple lately so I decifded to just go with it. :)

  • I had the exact same question, good to know that I shouldn't waste my gift card money on an overpriced bag!

The bag has the pump built in- it is more convenient than a random bag would be- I wouldn't spend $100 on it but I would make a few phone calls.
  • I actually paid more to get the pump that isn't attached to the bag so I could travel with it easier to I prefer one that isn't attached to a bag.
