Speaking of judging...

edited June 2014 in Stay at Home Moms
Why, oh why do people feel the need to take pictures of their kid crying in pain in the er and post them to Facebook? If you need support so badly, can't you say Jane is hurt, we are in the er, send thoughts and prayers our way?

  • I agree!  Or post one and not hourly updated pics!

I hate ER type pictures in general. Do you really need to broadcast that to the FB world?

I think when I was in the er with my child terrified the last thing on my mind was posting to Facebook or taking a picture to forever remember the occasion. Using a child suffering to get attention is the lowest of the low,
I agree, but based on the pictures I've seen, most people seem to do it ASAP upon arrival.

I think it's different when you've been admitted and are staying a few days - but in that initial ER trip, I don't relate.

Oh, I definitely get sending pictures when it's an extended stay and people are concerned especially to show they're doing ok. When your child is injured, crying in pain/scared, put down the phone and comfort your kid ffs.

Whoops - I posted pics after DS bone biopsy.  I didn't realize it was unacceptable

    shrug

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but he wasn't crying in pain, no? That's what I'm referring to--not the picture to show everyone who is concerned about your child that he's ok.

It is funny how others view FB. I have had some posts that annoy people I guess. My sister was teasing me for posting my dinner or other food pics. I mostly posted when it was something really yummy or a new recipe. Apparently that was annoying so I stopped.  Who knew?

You should post! Unless you're doing it like everyday its not that bad. Or if you're like someone on my friends list that's clearly pretentious and has to specify organic after every.single.ingredient. Lol

Oh I have one of these. She has to qualify every thing her kids eat, drink, drink out of. Every post has organic or BPA free typed in it somewhere. I find her kind of hilarious for trying so damn hard to impress.

  • We were on vacation once when I was a teenager and I passed out and had a seizure. As they were loading me into the ambulance my mom yelled "wait!" And then starts taking pictures.if FB had been around I'm 100% positive she would've posted them to be an AW

I have a picture of DS1 during his EEG but it never occured to me to post them on the internet. He just wanted to see how silly he looked with all the leads on his head. Oh, I also have a picture of the staples DS1 had in his foot but nobody wants to see that. It never even crossed my mind to snap pictures in the ambulance or at the ER.
I guess I'm weird but it would cross my mind to take pictures. Not for fb but I take pictures of everything. I almost always have my camera with me. But DD has never needed an ambulance so I guess if she were actually that hurt I would be focused on her.

I have posted 2 pictures of DD at the hospital but I took both of them while we were just sitting around waiting, she wasn't crying or anything. I wonder how many people judge that. /shrug

  • I have a pic of DD is her hospital gown when she got tubes at 9 mo., had there been IG or FB back then it would have been on there. Judge me!!

I believe there is a pic of DS on the way to the emergency room back in Jan...mostly bc it was in the middle of that crazy ice storm we had and he had a funny hat on.

If you ask DS1 the ambulance was probably the coolest thing ever but I was a little bit freaked out by all the blood that was coming out of my child. The EMT had to remind me to put my shoes on.
Yeah, now that I think about it, I would probably panic. lol. Plus, who wants a picture of someone covered in blood?

Am I the only one who spends hours waiting of we go to the ER? I have only been twice but both times my kids were fine and it was just a precaution. I don't think I took a picture but don't think it would have been wrong. But then again I love crying kid pictures(where the kid is not hurt)

Depends on why you're there. When my kid was losing consciousness for a head injury, they ripped him out of my hands and yelled out to all other medical staff to report to the er immediately. When dd had a seizure we weren't sitting in the waiting room either.

Not everything is that serious, though. DD fell on her head when she was 8 months old and they wanted her to stay for observation. We were doing nothing but sitting in the room for hours and she was fine. I do agree, though, if your kid is crying or seriously injured and you stop to take a picture, that is eye-roll worthy.

I didn't say every er trip was serious. I wasn't making a blanket statement that any photo of a child at an er was messed up--I specified only situations where the child is Clearly in distress.

  • I took a pic of Logan at the ER when he was a month old...he was asleep though. They had him on an IV and put an arm splint on him that was just huge, and he looked miserably adorable. It didn't go on Facebook, though I did text it out to my family.
  • I don't like injury pics because I'm squeamish. I don't like scrolling thru my news feed and suddenly setting someone's bloody wound, kid or adult.
    DD - 12/31/13
  • We have numerous hospital/ambulance pictures of Reese. All smiling though. This kid LOVES the hospital--and routinely begs to go back. Actually, she has a tantrum when she finds out we AREN'T going to the hospital, just the boring doctors.

The only thing she loves more then the hospital is the ambulance. Every time I tell her we are heading to the hospital---she pipes up, "and maybe an ambulance?" No kid. You are going in our boring old car. With no sirens. DVD players or being able to lay down.

oh okay that makes sense like I said both times I have been were a precaution and not in any way severe in fact I would say now they were a big waste.
