Twin Mamas

I think it's been a little while since we had a check-in and I wanted to see how everyone is doing and how you are doing some things :).

How are things going?

Sleep - Are you getting any? Are your twins sleeping together or in their own cribs/rnp/etc? Do you do one up both up?

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time?

Have your twins really noticed each other yet?

Anything else?

Hi I don't post much but I'll start. My baby girls are doing great they are sleeping through the night in their own bassinets. We ff and feed them every 4 hrs, half an hour apart it takes about 45 min to 1 hr to feed and change them both. If we put them next to each other they have started to catch each other's eyes and smile and talk it is so gorgeous. Only issue is one has 6-8 poo nappies a day and the other spits up a lot so we took them to the doctors today and they are getting tested for lactose intolerance. We have swapped their milk to lactose free and it has helped. Can't wait the hear how other twins and mummy's are going. I expected the absolute worst, no sleep no showers but have been pleasantly surprised! Oh yeah I'm mobile bumping they are 14 weeks

    How are things going?

Things were going really well here until their 4 month shots on Friday. For the most part they are happy, smiley babies. They are also starting to coo a lot, which is fun.

Sleep - Are you getting any? Are your twins sleeping together or in their own cribs/rnp/etc? Do you do one up both up?

My twins sleep in the same crib. Keira struggles to fall asleep so she starts out swaddled in the swing, then I move her to the crib after she's been sleeping for a little while. For a long time we would do one up, both up at night but I realized that Owen sleeps just as long, if not longer, if you don't wake him up. Now I just play it by ear depending on when one wakes up. They had been STTN but last week Keira started waking up more frequently and I think it was the 4 month sleep regression. Then you add in shots on Friday and sleep is just a mess for her right now.

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time?

My supply seems to have tanked this week so we are primarily BF but supplementing with some formula at most feedings. I tandem feed them about half the time when nursing. At this point they really struggle to fall asleep without nursing or rocking/walking/patting/shushing so it can be tough to do what each of them needs to get them to sleep. I have a tough time transferring them from where I'm nursing to wherever they're going to sleep when I have both of them so I find myself feeding one at a time a fair amount. The biggest downside to that is that I'm nursing all day which isn't much fun for me or DS1.

Have your twins really noticed each other yet?

They are just starting to look at each other, which I find a little funny because they've been in love with mirrors for a lot longer. I can't wait for them to start interacting with each other!

    Anything else?

I think that's enough of a novel for 3:45 in the morning :).

Most nights o get 9ish hours of sleep. My boys sleep together in a cosleeper by the bed. I do one up both up, even if I didn't they seem to wake up the same time.

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time?
They are ebf, and I always feed together

Have your twins really noticed each other yet?
They've started to really notice each other and interact just in the last two days. I love it! If they can see each other, they're constantly smiling at or talking to each other :)

    Anything else?

  • How are things going?
Pretty well. It's busy but we're surviving. Plus I usually have quite a bit of help.

Sleep - Are you getting any? Are your twins sleeping together or in their own cribs/rnp/etc? Do you do one up both up?
They're still sharing the cosleeper in our room. We'll move them to separate cribs once they STTN. I don't really do one up both up, but they usually wake once a night about 30 min apart.

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time?
We're EBF right now. We sometimes tandem feed (usually the first feed of the day, and maybe one other time) but usually feed one at a time.

Have your twins really noticed each other yet?
Audrey notices Rhys, but he's oblivious! It's funny!!

    Anything else?
DS1 has started saying "no don't feed that baby" or "I don't want that baby here" if we try to included one of the twins in an activity (like reading him bedtime stories). It's hard keeping him engaged and not feeling like the babies are taking over :-(

  • Hello!!!!

How are things going?  They're actually going really well!  They've started to play for longer periods of time and we're starting to learn what their cries mean :)

Sleep - Are you getting any? Are your twins sleeping together or in their own cribs/rnp/etc? Do you do one up both up? Sleep is hit and miss, but we have finally got both transitioned into their cribs from their RNP.  Ellie always sleeps through the night - Everett usually goes about 6-7 hours and then he's up ready to eat!  Getting him into the crib was a challenge, but I think he's finally getting used to it!

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time?
We do all bottles, I pump and we supplement with formula.  We usually feed them together, only because they usually get hungry at the same time.  On the weekends we will let them demand feed and they're still pretty much in sync with each other.

Have your twins really noticed each other yet? Yes!!! They watch each other all the time and will "talk" to each other!  Totally cute!

    Anything else?  Not really! :)

This was from my dad's house yesterday! Ellie was less excited about sitting up :)

  • I think it's been a little while since we had a check-in and I wanted to see how everyone is doing and how you are doing some things .

How are things going? Much better than I ever expected!

Sleep - Are you getting any? Are your twins sleeping together or in their own cribs/rnp/etc? Do you do one up both up?
Both girls have been sleeping through the night for a couple weeks ago! They sleep in the same crib, but once we move them to their room I think we will put them in separate cribs. We used to do 1 up both up, but now just tend to whomever wakes first!

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time?
We ff feed, and we do both. If they are both hungry at the same time I use the Brest friend pillow!

Have your twins really noticed each other yet? Alaina has been noticing Brianna for a while, and Brianna just noticed Alaina the other day. Even though they don't always look at each other they are always grabbing for each other's hand.

  • Baby girls!
  • How are things going?
    things are going really well.

Sleep - Are you getting any? Are your twins sleeping together or in their own cribs/rnp/etc? Do you do one up both up?

We are sleeping!!! We are still in our RNP but trying the cribs. M wakes up once a night and F sleeps straight through!

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time? Combo. I bf and supplement with formula. Together most times throughout the day.

Have your twins really noticed each other yet?
F notices and smiles at M. The hold hands often, and most often when nursing. It's amazing!

  • Thanks for posting this, I've been wondering how everyone is!
    How are things going?

Sleep - Are you getting any? Are your twins sleeping together or in their own cribs/rnp/etc? Do you do one up both up?
This seems to keep changing but hopefully we are trending towards STTN. As of a few weeks ago (probably 13 ish weeks old) they were sleeping together, each swaddled in the PNP in their room. They were going to bed around 8:30-9pm after tandem nursing. They would usually wake up at 12:30, 3:30 and then from 5:30ish on they had pretty broken sleep and often stayed in bed with us. Vincent started to suck his thumb so we took his arms out of the swaddle and he still slept the same. The first increase in sleep seemed to be the last stretch, not the first. They started waking at 6:30 or 7 instead of 5:30.
Then Dominic started to try to roll from back to belly. He would arch his back and turn his head like he was looking for a boob or binkie and then wiggle into the corner of the PNP and get stuck and cry. We were getting up with him every 2 hours!! Sometimes I could just re-position him and he would go right back to sleep but other times I would have to nurse him. And if i'm going to nurse him I have to nurse Vincent, otherwise I might be up every hour between the 2 of them.
We took Dominic out of the swaddle since he was attempting to roll and started to place him on his side, this seemed to help and we were back to up every 3 hours. Randomly they would sleep until 2:30-3:30 but not more than 1x/week.
Now they are in the crib together with no swaddles. Dominic can roll over so he is a happy tummy sleeper. I try to get them bathed, nursed and to bed by 7 or 7:30, then we do an individual dream feed around 9. The last 2 nights they have gotten up at around 3 and then again around 6:30 or 7...hopefully it stays this way.
Sorry that was so long but I know our Los are all different ages so hopefully it helps someone.

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time?
We are still EBF, honestly I'm so amazed at my body making the perfect amount of milk. They have their 4 month appt tomorrow and I can't wait to see what they weigh. DS1 was always in the 0-1% and the twins are gaining weight better than he did...amazing!
In the middle of the night I tandem nurse with the My Breast Friend pillow. I prefer to nurse individually b/c it is less of a production but if one wakes up and I try it inevitably the other will wake up as soon as we get settled so I still do 1 up both up. if we are going to be leaving the house soon or if we have just returned I also tandem nurse. In the afternoon if one wakes up from a nap i'll side lying nurse him.

Have your twins really noticed each other yet?
If we sit them in front of each other they smile and "talk" sometimes. Often 1 will notice and talk to the other but the other is oblivious. They both think that big brother is hilarious, which is often frustrating b/c they laugh at things I'm telling him to stop doing...I can only see this getting worse as they get older, but at least baby giggles are cute!

    Anything else?
I had a bunch of twin questions lately but now I can't remember...I'll probably be back :)

@bandteacher‌ Keira just started getting up every two hours last week after going 6-8 hours every night for weeks. Tonight she finally went another 6 hour stretch so there is hope! Now we'll see how tomorrow night goes.

@YankeePeach08‌ my twins love their big brother too. They aren't quite laughing yet but they smile like crazy at him. I'm worried for the same reasons you are :).

It sounds like most of the twin babies and mamas are really doing well!

  • We should have check ins more often! Or maybe I just always miss them, anyway...

Sleep - Are you getting any? Are your twins sleeping together or in their own cribs/rnp/etc? Do you do one up both up?

The girls have been sttn for over a month now, and it's wonderful. We do a dream feed around 11:00 and they sleep till 6:30-7:00. I often need the help of the swing to get them to fall asleep though. Normally they fuss a lot at bed time but once they're out, they stay out! Napping is a challenge though, they resist even though they are making tons of sleepy cues. They sleep in their own cribs.

Feeding - breast or bottle, are you feeding them together or one at a time?

I've been EPing, and tandum bottle feeding. I use rolled up blankets to help prop bottles to make tandum feeding easier. I know propping bottles is a big no-no but I think we MoMs need to cut corners to stay sane, and I'm right there with them the while time. I pump 50oz per day which is not quite enough for them, so we supplement with a little formula.

Have your twins really noticed each other yet?

Not really but I hope soon! Sometimes they look at each other but they don't really interact or anything.

    Anything else?
I'll say that this seems to be getting easier...they definitely don't cry so much now and it's fun that they are smiling and giggling now.
