During my last pregnancy, I woke up screaming from pain from one. That's one way to really freak your husband out! I felt like I could barely walk I was so sore. It was bad! Anyway, I upped my potassium (I think - I ate bananas and drank coconut water) and it didn't happen again.
Eat more bananas (magnesium), drink more water. You can also do simple stretches before bed or in the shower. That can help loosen your muscles before bed.
As of today the pain did go away, thank goodness! I was half asleep and am almost positive that I pointed my toe out when it happened. I'm sure this caused the problem. Drinking a lot more water and aiming for a banana a day.
