2nd Trimester

TMI QUESTION!!

I've been drinking Welch's grape juice for the past month because it's a natural anti-coagulant. For the past two weeks I've had black stool. Like, really black. I think it can be attributed to the juice since it's purple in color. I want to make sure though as I know this is a possible symptom of a GI bleed or ulcer. If it is the juice, will it go away over time or is it just going to be black if I keep drinking it? I rather not stop it. I just thought it would go away by now if my body is used to having it. It's not from iron supplementation either as I've been on the same prenatal for 2+ years.

You are drinking it too much and your body is dumping the rest. Stop drinking it anyway the amount of sugar in grape juice is crazy.

And any reason you think you need an anti-coagulate?

Call your doctor anyway and ask his opinion, these were just my thoughts.

In just 8oz which is not much... Carbs: 33.93g (Fiber: 0.23g, Sugar 33.7).

I only drink 4oz a day and because my doctor recommended it because I have a clotting disorder. I'm going to listen to them vs the internet. Just curious as to why. 4 oz isn't that much. Plus, I was underweight when getting pregnant and have low blood sugar. Not an issue for me to drink it.
  • I would assume 4oz a day is not enough to turn your stool black so if it were me I would call my doctor to make sure it wasn't something more serious. It could be the juice but I would rather be safe than sorry.

  • Listening to your physician is wise. Sounds like your post here was probably a waste of time. The best thing to do is always ask your doctor and trust their opinion over internet strangers. GL with your issue.

  • Try cutting your juice in half with water.....That is what I do with my apple juice because I find that it is too thick and sugary....Black stool is usually due to high iron in your body but I would talk to your doctor first!!
  • You should call your doctor. Since our opinions don't matter anyways.
Too true. Don't post on here if you don't want other opinions?? I don't understand…

The whole reason people post is so they don't have to ask their doctor every single thing. But if it's something worrisome to a person and they post it on here, they're asking if it should be something they need to get checked out that second or if it's a normal question to ask or whatever.

  • I advice calling Dr because it could be serious. My mom has black stool and it was a ulcer. So get there opinion to be safe I hope all is well
  • Just FYI being underweight doesn't mean anything either. I was underweight with frequent low sugar and guess who developed gestational diabetes.. This girl right here.
