Own room

LO is almost 5 wk she sleeps 6 hr stretch then about 2-4 hr after at night . Right now she is in our room in her swing ( yes her swing I get a lot of looks for that -_-) I like it better then a bassinet it keeps her in one spot and up right . Pulse our first was 9lb and was way to big for the bassinet so we put her in the swing and it worked so I just followed suit. I cant recall when we put our first in her crib in her own room , but LO grunts all night !! Dr says its normal and she will out grow it in time , but in the meantime we are not sleeping do to the grunting!! Humph ! When you put or plan on putting your LO in their own room ?

Re: Own room

  • I put DS2 in the closet due to all his noise. We can still hear when he starts waking but not all the nighttime grunts.

With both we've also started them out in their own room from day one. I know I could never sleep with all the noise and the nursery is right across the hall from us.

  • We moved DS1 at just under 12 weeks fully into his room/crib but I remember we'd keep him in ours for most of the night then move him after his last MOTN feeding to help transition, i think we started that at 6 weeks.

This LO is only 3 weeks and we are already contemplating moving him b/c of the same reason, he makes SO much noise that we are having trouble sleeping.

  • We would have had LO in her own room from day one but we are moving in a few weeks and setting up a whole nursery was not necessary so she's in a pack n play in our room until then. She will be in her own room at 2 months when we are in our new place.
  • 2 months here also.once she started sleeping through the night( almost).
  • My LO sleeps in his swing too. He won't sleep in the bassinet... Ever! I'm hoping to move him to his crib when he sleeps longer than 2 hours

My first son was in his room at 2 months. This one will be close to 4 months when we move into our house. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment and had thought the boys could share a room, then we discovered that my 2 year old could climb into the crib.
  • Both this baby and our first went right to their own room. Newborns are so so noisy and I preferred to not worry about transitioning them later.

  • DS started grunting in his sleep around 3 weeks and that's when we moved him to his room.

We started this week. Sometimes it doesn't work so he'll be in the swing or PNP in the living room and one of us stays down there. If he slept in our room neither one of us would sleep. At least 1 of us gets some sleep.

  • Right from the start. Right now she sleeps in the pack n play in the family room bc the one night when we had a fire outside and i didn't feel like waking her to put her in the crib and to move the monitors around I just let her sleep there. Well she slept the best so we've been letting her sleep there.

  • 2 1/2 months. We moved the bassinet into his room and he slept in that for 3-4 days before we put him into the crib. No issues with the transition.

We moved LO at 3 weeks. He was screaming every time he went into the cradle in our room, tried him in his crib and he went straight to sleep. Since then we've been getting 3.5 hour stretches out of him. He seems happier in there but i hated not having him next to me the first few nights
  • DS1 slept in the swing for a long time. No judging here! DS2 is in our room in the PNP right now but we just got the message that his crib is ready so I'm thinking after we go get it tomorrow he will spend his first night in his own room. If it sucks then I'll bring him back to the PNP and try again later.

  • Not sure if it us a Canadian thing or a local thing here but at our prenatal hospital courses, they inform us it is best to have the baby sleep in the same room for about 6 months to prevent sids. With my first she slept in our room in a pnp for 6 months. I plan to do the same this time. I found i got used to the grunts and noises and knew what to sleep through over time, although my Mom ears never really slept.
I wonder why it is recommend to have baby sleep in parents room so long here.
  • @bossyferg‌ I think the AAP actually recommends 6 mos here too but most moms I know transition around 3 mos
  • Yes, AAP does recommend 6 months though interestingly at my LO's last check up our pediatrician said it's safe for them to sleep in own room but before 6 weeks it is probably not worth it since they wake up and feed so often. I was surprised.

Thank you for the update : ) i wasnt sure if it was a standard recommendation but seems like it is common.
  • I wear ear plugs so I don't hear the grunts but can hear when he wakes. He is in the RNP right next to me. DH sleeps through everything! I actually wear the ear plugs because of his snoring. With ds1 we moved him to his room at 8 weeks but this time I am planning on 6 months. 8 weeks was much to early looking back on his bad sleeping.

  • DD1 slept in the cosleeper in
Our room for 8 months. DD2 will sleep in our room for at least 6m, then we'll assess if the kids are ready for DD1 to move to the twin bed so DD2 can have the crib. They'll be sharing a room so I also want to make sure DD2 STTN so she isnt waking up DD1 too much

we switched DD at 3 weeks, but her room was really close to ours so we just left the doors open and could hear her when she woke up.

Not sure what to do now... I want to put DS in his room w the monitor, but I worry that for him to be loud enough to activate the monitor would be loud enough to wake up DD and DH. We'll give it a few more weeks and see how it goes.
