Wonky first PP period while BFing

So LO is 13 months and I just got my first PP period on Wednesday. At least I think it counts. Basically I had all my usual PMS symptoms, then cramping and a super light flow on Wednesday, and I was expecting it to get heavier on Thursday as it used to before I had C, but instead I just had spotting. So my "period" was one day of light flow and two days of spotting. Is this normal? C is nursing anywhere from 4-8 times a day still (mostly depending on how well she does at night) and I knew my first period would be weird but this just seems so short...

I would just chalk it up to the hormones and be on my way, but I had a PP D&C and someone I know got me all paranoid about scarring. I know having a really light period can indicate a possibility of Asherman's, and I know I'm just being paranoid but I'd feel better if someone told me that my basically non-existent first PP period is just par for the course on this wild ride we call BFing!

I had a crazy heavy first PPAF. Then really short LP (7 days) and a really light flow for my second and third, followed by a normal fourth AF. I would maybe just keep an eye on it and if they continue to be wonky meet with you doctor.

  • I don't know about normal, but that's exactly how my first pp period was. Then 97 days later I had another. Lol! It has evened out over time and is now as regular I as I ever have been.

    My Charts since 2009

  • Mine returned 6 weeks pp and it's definitely been wonky. Everyone I've talked to has said the same thing, I think it just takes your body some time to find a rhythm again with all the changing hormones.
Me:41, DH:41 Positive for MTHFR mutations- one copy C677T, one copy A1298C. One daughter born on Thanksgiving in 2013. Six losses.
  • That's the way mine was too at 15.5 months postpartum, just basically brown/pink, light flow/spotting with cramps.  Honestly I wasn't sure if it was AF or pregnancy related spotting, figured out later it was AF.

Thanks for the responses ladies! Sorry to post and run but we went out of town for a while and I didn't get much of a chance to check the bump. Definitely not pregnant (it would be nice since we're ready for #2!) so I'm just chalking it up to wonky hormones for now and we'll see what happens in the next few months!
