Gender neutral or girly colors when registering?

Hubs and I finally decided to get the registry process going. Holy cow! My brain hurt after a couple hours in Target.

What is the best advice: This is our first baby (a girl) and when it comes to picking out patterns for strollers, pack & plays, stuff like that, is it best to get girly colors or go with more neutral patterns in case we have another little one and it's a boy? I tend to over-analyze everything, so I could just be acting like a nut-case, which I'm sure is what hubby is thinking, lol. The girl patterns are so cute and of course I keep looking at them, but I'm just thinking of the money-saving in the future.

I chose neutral and I'll get girl accents as I see them. My stroller and seat are black, but she'll have pink blankets and etc.

I'm a neutral person though.

Were in the same boat. We decided to do the big stuff (car seat, stroller, etc) neutral and go girly just in the little stuff. I figure if we have a boy in the future I'll want to buy clothes, blankets, etc again anyway but the big stuff adds up fast.

We went gender neutral with DS on everything but the carseat. Carseats have an expiration date, and even if my next kid was born within the time frame, I would just be more comfortable with a brand new seat.

Everything we bought for DS was neutral and even though this LO is also a boy, the only major expense we would have for a new baby (boy or girl) is the carseat.

If you really love the girl ones, go for it! Just be prepared to buy an entire new set of everything If you should have a boy in the future and decide not to reuse those items.

I went gender neutral on everything the first time because we were team green. However, when he got ready for a high chair I got a "boy" pattern because I wanted him to have something that was not gender neutral. We are team boy this time so I got lucky that I'll reuse it.

We registered yesterday (4 hours at buy buy baby... so tired!) and mainly picked GN items. We picked some girly things but overall, we wanted things we could use in the future with our next baby! I know my family and friends will end up selecting mainly super girly things so we tried to balance it with as many peach, mint and white things as possible.

Personally we are going girly, but only because, unless a major miracle occurs, this will be our only one. If it were likely that we would have any more, then it would be gender neutral for us too!

I also went with gender neutral with minimal patterns for the following reasons:
1. If we have another baby, it can be used for either boy or girl.
2. I see strollers, car seats, etc somewhat as accessories. I tend to wear a lot of prints/patterns/color myself and wanted neutral, un-patterned baby gear that wouldn't clash. (My stroller and diaper bag are taupe and the car seat is black).
3. It might be a while before #2 comes along and I didn't want to buy any heavily patterned items in fear that I wouldn't love/tire of them down the road. I mean, look what happened to chevron....

Oh, and FWIW, I got a diaper bag that I like with no thought about the sex of my LO. It's my bag that just so happens to carry stuff for a boy baby.

I am doing gender neutral because I am team green, but I had a cousin recommend doing neutral on the big items so you can use the same stuff again with later children. I think you can definitely pull out the girly stuff in clothes that you buy. You can never have too many clothes I was a nanny at one time and you go through a lot of clothes. Plus, I loooove clothes so that's where I plan on splurging on the gender color once we find out what our baby is going to be.

I would consider how long do you think your gonna wait to have another LO? Car seats are not good forever (6 year limit) and how long are you going to want to hang onto all of those items.

We went gender neutral for everything big for DS1. DS2 used the infant seat, too (as well as my nephew). If this baby would have been a girl, we would have got a girly infant seat to replace the expired one. If it helps, Chicco and I believe Graco sell replacement covers.

agreeing with other posters on getting gender neutral large items: nursery furniture, PNP, stroller, carseat, highchair, etc... i'd also avoid busy prints when possible- if you go all camera happy and baby is wearing a pretty pink printed outfit and sitting in a cutsie printed pink stroller you'll have a hard time getting photos where it's the baby you notice. get your girlie accents in with bedding, stuffed animals, room decor, and baby's clothes. most of our items are grey/charcoal and light green which worked great for DD and it's going to be a very smooth transition to use again for her brother 'tater'. (with all that said, it's your baby and you have to look at the stuff every day so get what you like!)

We did gender neutral mainly because I dislike many of the "girl" patterns and colors out there. While we are probably one and done, gender neutral will also work if we decide to have another.

This, except our infant seat was neutral. DD has a pink convertible seat in my car. You can add girly stuff with clothes and accessories.

We bought all gender-neutral items except for clothes, bedding, and some toys. Everything else can be passed on to LO#2 and to me, it justifies buying new items v. used because we're getting a ton of use out of each item. If you were to buy girly items, I've heard of groups where you can exchange "boy" and "girl" items for the opposite gender or you can buy new covers for carseats, etc. It just depends what you like and how much you would want to change if your next one was a boy.

We are having a girl too, also our first.

I don't like pink or elaborate girly things too much, so exclusively girl stuff doesn't call to me.

I plan on buying pink/purple stuff if I'm ok only using it for this baby (Pacifiers, bedding, washcloths, towels) For big ticket items, I'm more concerned with practicality...and will go neutral on those.

I figure that at my baby shower we will get a lot of cutesy girly items.

Wow, you guys are AWESOME! Thank you for all the replies!!! Gender neutral it is! So many good points made. When I first had that Target scanner in my hands I was all ready to scan the cutesy girly things but the more I thought about it in the store I wondered if that was the best idea. Glad I waited

Who knows if we'll get lucky enough with another little one...this one took 3+ years, plus I'm 35, so who knows what's in store for us. But it's always better to be prepared. And the over-the-top girly colors on strollers and such in pics is something I never thought of.

Late to the party, but I didn't really consider if it was "girly" or not when looking for DD. The travel system is totally boy but it is the one we liked. Her convertible seat is black/grey/white so pretty neutral. Diaper bags, well I had to get something DH would carry so it is on the boyish side too!

Really though, we just picked what we liked. DD's bedding is very girly, but most of the big ticket items are leaning toward boy.
