Would you use this dresser as a changing table? I just don't like the idea of actually have a changing table on the nursery when in a couple of years you would not being using it anymore. What do you think?
We are just using a changing pad on top of dresser, rather than an actual changing table. It's basically the same thing. If you have the space and want to spend the money on one, sure. I just don't see it as a necessity.
I think that's a great solution with a changing pad. We use IKEA expedit 4x4 cubes for storage -- too high to change on top of. So we ended up getting a cheap changing table and that works too. I figured it was something we would use for over a year with each kid unlike things like exersaucers, jumpers, swings, etc. that are only used for a few months and cost just as much if not more.
My dresser has a hutch over it so I can't use it as a changer, but we also have a desk in the room so I am putting the changing pad on top of it. The diaper pail will go in the "hole" for the chair. I don't see the point in spending any money on furniture that can only be used for a short time.

We used a dresser for a changing table for DD and it has worked out great. I have the dresser you pictured in my bedroom and couldn't use it bc it is too tall for me. Just make sure that it is low enough that you can comfortable change a baby including the lifting onto and off of.
We have the smaller version of that and I think it's going to work perfectly. I wish we had the space for the one you posted! To me it makes more sense to buy something like that that you'll be able to reuse.
We are doing the dresser with a changing pad instead of the changing table as well. I already had a dresser that we are using, I wish it matched the rest of the nursery stuff, but it will do. It's a great height & has a ton of storage space so I couldn't justify spending the money on a changing table.
I have the same dresser in my son's room and it works great as a changing table. Plenty of room for the changing pad and then lots of other space to have diapers, wipes, and cream at hand. I also keep extra wipes in one of the top little drawers in case I run out mid poop. My sister thought it was too tall when changing her daughter on it once because she is used to a dedicated changing table but I'm only 5'4" and I have never had an issue. I love it so much I bought another one for this baby. These dressers hold up really well too. We have moved a million times and just did a move that involved our stuff being on a truck and a barge and there is not a scratch on it. All of my other furniture got banged up but all the ikea solid wood Hemnes stuff is fine.
We got a changing table but it is more of a dresser. It has 3 decent sized drawers and a little bit of a raised top (almost like a tray). When she gets older, we will just use it as a dresser if we are not using it for baby #2. We chose this because it was smaller than a dresser and the nursery is small. Space is key for us.
We actually have a changing table...my rationale was that the rooms in our house aren't that huge and I didn't want the dresser to take up too much floor space so we have the upright style chest of drawers, and then the changing table only stays in the room until around 2 years or so. Our changing table was less than $100 (IKEA) and we used it with DS for 2.5y and now will use it with baby girl. So I feel like we are definitely getting our money's worth and in the long run, we have more floor space in the kids' rooms.
Thanks girls I really like this dresser my only concern is that I'm 5'1 and I don't think I will have a problem while DS is small but when he gets older may be a problem. I would probably just end up with this one anyway.
I have that exact dresser and I think it might be a little too high for a changing table. Especially with your height. I'm 5'4" and it would be too high for me. But the dresser is great. Its very very sturdy! I put my together last year when I was 7 months pregnant with twins. It took me 6 hours. It was easy...just time consuming.
Well I told my DH my concern about the high and as handy as he is and the bunch of tools he has he's convinced he can fix it to a height we are both comfortable.
