Maternit21 & NT scan?

Hi Ladies, I am interested in getting some noninvasive genetic testing done. Do on get both the maternit21 and NT scan? Then do I get the quad screening later?

Re: Maternit21 & NT scan?

  • I had the Materniti21 test and the quad screen. No NT scan because the Materniti21 results came back negative.

My doc did the quad screen because I was higher risk for spinabifida based on family history.

Talk to your doc to see which tests make the most sense for you.

  • I am not sure what the quad screen is but I had the Maternity21 test and the NT scan at the same time.  I am not having any other testing done.
  • I did NT scan and received bad results which lead to 3 weeks of hell as I awaited Panorama test results (same at Matern21 test) to finally hear "negative". NT scan seems to give alot of false positives.

NT scan sometimes gives scary numbers based on AGE. If you do it, make sure to see if you can also do MAterni21 first or at same time.

  • Yes I had NT and Harmony done, both at 12 weeks, and last week they did the spina bifida test.

My doc wanted me to choose either the sequential screen (NT+related bloodwork done at 12w) OR Harmony. But my insurance said they covered both so I chose Harmony over the other bloodwork as I understood it was more accurate/specialized. We had the NT still as it also checksfor other things plus you get to see the baby.

The genetic counsellor who spoke with us agreed that it was a good plan.

She also said we should do the 16w blood test for spina bifida (no family history, just as a precaution) and we did this past week.
  • I had the NT scan at 13 weeks that came back positive I then did the MaterniT21 blood test the same day and got my results in 7 days and that was negative.

I had M21 at 10 weeks with negative results, had the NT at 13 weeks. My doc does both because she said M21 doesn't detect risks for some other conditions (other than chromosomal abnormalities) that the NT does - risk for fetal growth retardation was one. I had the quad screen (just another blood draw) at 16 weeks to screen for neural tube defects.
