Do you call your LO(s) babies still?

edited June 2014 in February 2013 Moms
Just wondering how y'all refer to your LO's these days. I think I've picked up a pretty good impression from reading comments, and it seems like we have a good mix. Obviously, when they're grown they'll still be our babies… but I am wondering how many of you refer to your LO(s) as actual babies in conversation still.

So, what do you typically refer to your child as?

I should have voted SS bc it varies, but I usually will say "the baby."  "I don't mind what Jack does in the morning, so long as he doesn't wake the baby."
For me, 18 months is the point at which they are no longer "the baby."
That's kind of my stance on it. And it kinda weirds me out that that day is fast approaching!

But I still use "baby" as an (unnecessary) adjective for things with DS… baby diaper, baby hands, baby feet, baby nose, baby kiss, baby hug… you get the idea lol

  • We usually call her a baby--and everyone else calls her a baby--probably b/c she has so little hair.  Everyone at parks and the library tells their kid, "watch out for the baby" even when they have a toddler who is not much older.  If having no hair excuses her behavior and makes other kids not shove her, I'm all for it.  Sometimes I say "outside baby" and "inside baby" to differentiate between M and the gestating one.
  • I mostly call and think of her as a baby. It feels weird saying she's a toddler, even though she is.

  • We've really started calling him a toddler because we're getting close to having another baby. And he suddenly doesn't seem like a baby any longer. :(

  • I call them babies to their faces but if I'm talking to someone else about them I say "the boys" or use their names if I'm talking about just one of them specifically.

  • To her I say "big girl" or "squirmy wormy."
  • I use all of the above.  There's really no rhyme or reason to it, just depends on what word fits best in the context I'm using it.  :-P

  • We still call him "the baby." Mostly because one of our nickname's we've had for him since he was born is "Baby J."

  • She's 19 pounds, loves to nurse and is only just now learning to walk so baby it is! Of course, my 8 year old Siberian Husky was my baby too so maybe age has less to do with it than affection.
  • When my daughter was this age, I considered her a toddler. But now with my son, I think of him as a baby. I think it's just because I have an older child, and it's very clear to me that he's still a baby. But he is growing so much and learning new things all the time these days. Sure I won't consider him a baby for too much longer.

  • @PhieryBFly‌ I am the same way, my 8 yo pointer will always be my puppy. Even though he was 3 when we adopted him. :-p

  • I voted SS because while I am trying to consider him a toddler, I call him "Bebe" all the time. It's his nick name. Which I am sure if I call him that when he's older and in school, I will probably get some dirty looks.

  • Also, my DD is 'Child!' when I'm frustrated at her. As in, "Child, MUST you throw spaghetti on the floor?!"
  • I still call mine a baby as well. Lol.. I am still paying "baby" prices at daycare and not toddler.
