CPT: Liquor stores

I had to take LO into a liquor store yesterday to get wine for a last-minute dinner party. (Because of my state's asinine liquor laws, wine and liquor are not sold in grocery stores.) Nobody gave me the side-eye, but I still felt a little weird. It made me wonder what the other mamas do. Would you ever take your LO into a liquor store?

Yes, there's no problem with that.

Yes, but I'd feel strange about it.

No way; that's just wrong.

I wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't judge another parent for doing it.

I haven't yet...but I would in a pinch, and feel strange about it.  :-)  Then again I bought a ton of liquor for my sister (she's many years old than me) when I was pregnant and no one side-eyed that either.

  • I wouldn't have a problem with it because all the liquor stores around here are attached to regular stores so it's not any different.

In fact, I heard (can't seem to fact check that though) that our local 7-Eleven (one by Mount Snow) is one of the biggest ones in the country because we have the Vermont Liquor Store in it. It's really obnoxious for the cashiers though because they have to use a separate register for liquor but beer and wine can be rung up on the regular register.

So when I was visiting ILs, the local liquor store had a "penny sale." Buy 1 bottle of wine, get one for 1 cent. Awesome. 12 bottles and only $80 later we were set. Plus SIL and her FI were with us and loaded up too.

The baby was also with us. We had a massive cart of wine and an infant. No one cared.

Now if he was a teenager/tween/ old enough to sit in the care for 10 mins while mommy gets a bottle of wine, I'd leave him in the car. Until then he comes with me. Or I'm assuming. I think id rather not have a "bull in a china shop" toddler around all those breakable bottles.
  • I found out the hard way that in OK you can't bring anyone under 21 in. So with that said, I obviously tried to and had no problem bringing her in. I will drink some wine when she's asleep or some beer if she's with her grandparents. If someone (another customer, not an employee) were to say something, I would have no problem giving them an earful. In KS, I haven't had an issue bringing her in.

  • Unless you're sticking the baby's bottle nipple on the bottle of wine, I don't see the issue.

  • I haven't done it, because I haven't needed to go to a liquor store, but I bought liquor at gas stations with my kids present.

I did the same thing! I bought a case of beer (Blackbeary Wheat!) when I was heavily pregnant and didn't think twice about it. (Opened it up after LO was born.) But with LO in the shopping cart yesterday, I felt strange! Everyone was super nice about it; saying he was really cute and waving to him.

I just wish I could buy wine in the grocery store to save on time. In my state, they carry beer in grocery stores but not wine. But they carry wine (and not beer) at drug stores like CVS.

I had a liquor store refuse to serve me while 9 months pregnant. Their loss. I wasn't buying it for me. That's sweet that they cared though.

Wine at CVS?  I need to move where you are!  LOL the only places they sell alcohol here is the grocery store (beer only), convenience stores (beer only), and liquor stores.  No fun with that!!!

    Agreed!

  • I would and I wouldn't think twice. In Ontario, we can only buy from the liquor store or beer store.

  • Hmmmm. I never thought about this.

Here in indiana you can buy booze at target. So it just goes in the cart next to the diapers and bread. I would have no problem going in a liquor store with them. I have 2 kids almost 2 years apart, they know I need a drink every once in a while!

Like @BlondieBia21‌, it's illegal here (NC) to have anyone under 21 in the liquor store. But at Christmas, I hauled LO in her car seat through the store looking at every single bottle they had. No one said a word and I walked out with 4 bottles of liquor (as Christmas gifts - keepin' it class, folks!)

I will take alcohol as a gift anytime!!

    @mommykristin88 that's illegal!

Really? I guess they didn't care.

  • I have. We were out running other errands, we needed a bottle of wine for a party that night, and baby was with us. Whatever, being in the presence of unopened bottles of alcohol is unlikely to harm him. There were actually quite a few kids there. The store was next door to Babies R Us, so I imagine if they get a lot of people visiting both.
