On Sunday, I took DS to Target to get father's day cards and he picked the cards himself. DS was a bit hung up on a big turtle and little turtle on one of the cards. He told me that card was for grandpa. And then he picked the card for DH.
On Monday, I saw DS write his name on father's day cards! He first wrote it on DH's card and then grandpa's card!
Monday night DS1 asked for green beans (one of the foods in his rotation now for feeding therapy). I gave them to him and he actually ate them for the first time at home, as part of a meal. Then he ate some mango (another rotation food) for the first time at home. Last night he wouldn't do it, and he ate next to nothing at all, but maybe we will have a repeat of the good stuff soon!
Also a couple of days ago, he waved better than he ever has. It was still very stuff but much less "spazzy" (it was a smaller movement, not like a windshield wiper!)
Yesterday, he walked up to a new kid, said "hi" and asked, "what's your name?" Totally unprompted!
DD1 has been going to a half-day art camp this week. She did a camp at this center last year & they were super welcoming about the ASD stuff.
She has the same instructor (they have very little turn-over; the classes and camps are led by adult artists, not teens or college kids like a lot of places) and he remembered her and told me at the end of the day that he sees huge changes in her compared to last year. He said that she "gets" so much more now than she did.
It was really great to hear confirmation of her progress like that.
DD1's class had lunch in the cafeteria this week to help prepare them for first grade, and DD loved it! I also talked to the school nurse about how the school handles kids with allergies in the lunch room, and I am so impressed. I feel so much more comfortable about it, and I'm so happy that our school is doing so much to keep the FA kids safe.
Dd said "hi" and invited a girl her age who was a stranger to come play!!!!!!
Also bragplaint dd wants her brother to do everything with her all day long. If he's in the mood to do something else she tantrums. I'm all ears if anyone has some suggestions to continue encouraging her brother to join her play but also understand he's a separate person who wants to do different things sometimes I'm all ears...
Oh and I'm really not sure what this qualifies as, but it is funny. DS1 had a toy (a car wash and probably a frog inside) that DS2 wanted. DS1 was dodging him while DS2 cried about it. I was busy getting dinner ready. I told them if they couldn't share and play nice I'd take it away. Picture me working on the island and other countertop in the kitchen, and children circling the island and getting in my way constantly. The end result was that DS2 grabbed DS1's shirt and held on while he followed him. At some point in this process, DS1 slowed down his walking. So they were in a chain, walking slowly around the island.... Very bizarre, but sort of cute. But at least they were doing something together and not fighting! LOL. I should have taken video. If I wasn't trying to make dinner, I probably would have thought of it. Did I mention DH is out of town for 10 days???
Nate and I were playing with the Leap Frog magnetic alphabet toy and he was putting all the letters in order on the radiator cover. I videoed it for Facebook.....Then I thought "maybe he can do the alphabet backwards?....so I mixed up all the letters on the radiator and started with Z,Y, X, W and told him to try and go backwards with the rest.
He friggin' did it. I couldn't believe it and managed to grab the phone again and catch him going from G to A. A mom friend of mine assumed he had an alphabet cheat sheet off to the side or that the letters were already in order somehow. Nope.
I showed it to his teacher and just said, 'Look what Nate can do" She smiled and said "Wow nate! That is a really long line of letters" I replied "Umm, it's the alphabet backwards"..."Oh my it is!"
DS pushed from his tummy and knees into a sitting position today! He is getting so much stronger in his arms and hips. I can't wait to hear what the PT says tomorrow.
My little man has gotten so much braver in the pool lately. Instead of insisting on being held in the water (even when he has a puddle jumper on) he's now willing to "swim" a bit independently.
Also, he just re-started PT (a year and a half after he "graduated" from PT, we had him re-evaluated and he scored at the 5th percentile so we're back at it). He had his first session with his new PT this morning and I was proud of him for pushing himself to do things he was scared of.
One other thing. We finally got around to making our summer bucket list today and one thing he wanted to put on it was "make friends." I was pretty excited he expressed an interest in such a thing.
She is doing a summer class at her speech center where one of her SN Preschool teacher's works and she commented on how much her speech has progressed in just a month.
She's also doing awesome in her social skills group. She's still struggling with sitting and attending during circle time and group time (basically they are running it like a Preschool class circle time, free play, activity) but she is doing awesome at sharing and talking to the Team and the other kids, and participating with the group.
We ran into one of the kids going into her speech class and she said 'hi X' with no prompting at all.
