Pedialyte

My little guy is 3 months old today and has had diarreah for about a week because of antibiotics for an ear infection. I have given him some probiotics to help his little gut but I'm wondering if I can give him pedialyte to make sure he stays hydrated. His dr is closed until Monday so I can't call them.

  • Sounds kinda weird, but do you have health insurance? If you do, see if they have a 1-800 help line. Ours offers a 24/7 live nurse line for pregnancy and babies.
  • I agree with PP. As long as he's having the normal amount of wet diapers and eating regularly, then you don't really need to be concerned.

  • Thanks ladies. He is still eating and peeing ok. So he should be fine. And I keep checking the soft spot and it doesn't feel sunken. Just get nervous bc it is also super hot. I hate AZ in the summer!

Mine had diarrhea the other day too but both the doc and the telehealth nurse told me it was probably a virus. She's peeing and eating well enough with my tanked supply:( (another story ) and is alert when awake. I'd check with the do. But apparently if it's only one BM of diarrhea they told me to keep feeding her like always. Any of the other symptoms I need to call back.

I'd wait to hear from the doc before supplementing with anything.
  • I'm no help, just agree with PPs. I wanted to share this though. When my LO had his first little cold, I had to work so my mom and DH took him to get checked. My mom would NOT stop pushing the dr about pedialyte until the dr finally gave in and said it wouldn't hurt to have it on hand, but reiterated he shouldn't need it unless he isn't eating. DH was super annoyed and we hid it as soon as she brought it in.
