How Do You Interpret Your Baby's Movements?

So, I've heard people say "oh, a little dancer!" or "you have a wild child!" The tech said at mine, "she's a runner!" and being that I'm a marathon runner, I liked this very much, yes.

However, I know all of the above is silly.

So, get silly with me. How do you interpret your baby's movements?

The past few days, everything has felt SO STRONG (even though I have an anterior placenta). My husband felt the baby from the outside yesterday, and when I was in the tub, my belly moved the water and bubbles around...I thought of the scene in Jurassic Park where they knew the T-Rex was coming (so, that goes with the kangaraptor analogy floating around these parts, I suppose). Anyway, because of that, I just keep thinking this kid is sitting in my uterus, being good and pissed off about everything. JUUUUUUST like mom.

If this baby comes out with Grumpy Cat face, we'll know I was correct.

Re: How Do You Interpret Your Baby's Movements?

  • Hahahaha I'm picturing small squishy baby with grumpy cat face.

For big movements I say he's having a dance party, but for smaller movements I say he's warming up his pitching arm.

I'm a huge hockey fan so Anytime I feel sharp quick movements, I tell my DH "we've got a little bash brother in here!" Or I feel baby stretching I'll say "getting those muscles ready for the big game!"
I'm convinced, boy or girl, they will play hockey! Haha
  • Loud music in my car makes her kick,
So I like to think she's dancing to the beat. Actually she's probably like "hey lady, turn that down I was napping."

I always say she's karate chopping/kicking me. No real reason for that, I just think it's funny to picture a baby doing karate. The other night though she was especially feisty and DH said she's in there training so she can hold her own against her big brothers.

Haha me too! I always tell DH our little bub is doing karate in there. Like Splinter in the first TMNT movie when he was the normal sized rat copying his master's ninja moves. Lol

Can I just say, as a sidenote, I'm so happy you're having your girl!

  • My DH always says that he pictures them in there boxing like the "rock 'em sock 'em robots", lol! I just simply say that they are swimming like little fishes or having a dance party!

I always say she's stretching out/ makin room. I have two cats so I imagine her moving like a napping cat...

YAY! :D:D I'm getting so excited. It still doesn't feel completely real though. It probably won't completely sink in until I'm holding her.

I seem to notice it when I'm laying in bed in the morning or at night before I fall asleep. I'm all "this better not be indicative of the future, because it's bed time."
Unfortunately it kind of is... at least it was with my babies. I always heard that they get used to sleeping through the day because your daily movement basically rocks them to sleep, that's why they wake up at night. Then once they're born they're stuck on that schedule for a while.

  • This LO always seems uncomfortable. They move a ton every time I stop moving and/or shift positions. I can't say they are athletic, though. They aren't quite big enough for the acrobatics I experienced with DD!

Lately I've been getting some very low kicks/punches and I tell DH that she's trying to escape early lol. I've also decided that LO is going to be taller than both of us. Sometimes I feel her simultaneously at the very top and bottom of my tummy and it feels strong in both places! I thought this baby was only supposed to be as big as a papaya, how can she reach that far? Maybe she'll play basketball :)

  • I usually say they are being a little acrobat or a jumping bean
  • The doctor told us she was a little wiggler so that's usually what I say when I feel her...that she is wiggling around. :)

Her newest thing isn't just kicking but now I can feel her shoving her feet. I guess she is stretching out or something but her feet are super low. I still have a bump high so I guess she's decided to stay sitting breeched for now too.

  • I interpret them as "you're squishing me - get off!!" ;)

  • I call him "greedy" because he moves the most when it's time for me to eat again. It was weird when I became pregnant I started craving gross things DH ate. So he's greedy just like his dad.

  • I said this little one was doing Taekwondo. Feels like he's kicking and punching.  Still don't really know what is a foot and what is a hand, though.  How can you tell!?!?

  • So adorable! I have an anterior placenta as well and haven't felt much up until a week and a half ago...and now I feel what seems like everything. I'm in LOVE and am going to be sad when this is over! (Of course I'm fully aware that this very well may be the 'tolerable' stage of baby kicks vs down the road when it becomes painful.)

THAT SAID, in World Cup spirit, I'm saying that there's a little soccer player in there! :)

Well, I feel the same way, and it's my first! I just know I'm going to be the opposite of you--I'll end up with two girls and be wanting a boy. Not that either you or I would have been sad with three of one sex--but I think maybe we are the same in that we just wanted to experience both! I'm already having anxiety about baby #2. Two is our MAGIC number. It would be great to have two kids. One of each. We are willing to discuss three, but honestly, I don't want to be outnumbered!

Oh god. I hope it helps that I sit on my ass all day and hardly move after I run in the mornings. I'm a designer, so I'm chained to a desk all day. Please sleep at nighttime, Baby Purp!

I feel like that's what this baby feels like she's doing. She's angry, moving around trying to find somewhere to go. In one case it was so violent already that I started to worry something was wrong (you worry if they don't move, you worry if they move too much, where do you draw the LINE, brain!?).

  • My husband is a crazy soccer fan so I always tell him that little man is going to be a soccer player that he is practicing his kicks.
  • I love hearing about all the active babies! ! My lo is pretty laid back. He reacts to certain voices at work and always cranks up while I'm drifting off to sleep.
Poor DH still hasn't felt him yet because he gets stage fright!

The best is when I am standing at someone's desk talking to them and all the sudden I get a giant jolt. It scares whoever I was talking to because I always jump and make a small noise.
  • I feel him now every time I eat or drink something and sometimes I'll characterize this as, "Oh, he liked that [food/drink]."  Otherwise I just say he's "dancing" or, if I feel a lot of movement, I'll say he's having a party. :)
