Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Any recommendations on teaching 17 mon dd to sleep in her new toddler bed in her own room?

She use to sleep in her crib in her own room just fine. So now that she climbs out of it, we're going to buy her a toddler bed. Any advice/tip with this transition? I would like for her to sleep in her own room/bed. Tia

  • We put a mattress and boxspring on the floor. We started at nap time so he had time to get used to it. For the first few weeks, I used the cushions from the couch to pad the floor in case he rolled out (I never got around to getting rails). The first night he rolled out several times, we just went in quick and moved him back. After that he never really fell out again. We did use a long body pillow under the sheets to make a bumper for a little bit too but he hated that. We keep his door closed so he can't get out and we've been lucky so far that normally he stays in bed. Just make sure the room is fully childproof attach any furniture that can tip to wall in case they climb. We made a big deal to DS about moving to a big boy bed, let him he'll pick sheets etc so he'd be excited. I'm not sure he cared but that's the advice I was given. Good luck!
