BF and STTN

DD has been sleeping through the night, which is wonderful, but I'm super full and hurting when I wake up. I usually end up pumping after feeding DD to relieve myself, but I don't want to keep telling my body to make more milk! (I'm easily pumping 4-6 oz after she eats).I'm getting a decent stash from pumping in the morning but more than I really need or have room to keep.

Any suggestions on dealing with engorgement in the mornings?

I was going through the same thing. I pumped to relieve the pain but not to empty my breasts and it corrected itself in about 3-4 days.

ETA hand expressing to relieve pressure is also effective if you'd prefer that.

    Same here

  • Same. Lightly pump or manual express to relieve pain, and was regulated in 2 nights.
  • Ill try just pumping less in the morning. Did that effect your supply at all? When you said that it corrected itself (@Baby1Dany‌), do you mean your body just adjusted to making less milk at night? It didn't affect your supply during the day?

  • Same here, although now LO has been waking up at 4 and last night at 2:30. Weird thankfully my supply seems to be doing ok.

  • Ok thanks! I'll try pumping less the next few mornings and see how it goes.

  • Yep, this is what I do. I also cheat and express off the first bit from each side and let LO carry on from there. She wasn't gaining quite as much as she should (resolved tongue tie at 11weeks) so I'm sneaky feeding her the fattier bits at the back and she's missing out on filling up with the watery section. I'm in a place that doesn't get that hot at all so can get away with this. She needs the fattier bits more than water!
  • I was just wondering the same thing. My lo isn't sttn yet still gets up between 1-3. The nights that she doesn't get up till 3 are rough though I tend to wake before her and hurt and am leaking. She goes down at 8 so her last feeding is around 7:30. 8 hrs is to long for my boobies!! When she does start sttn I'm in trouble. Tonight I woke before her and quickly pumped on one side (would have done both but she woke up of course) only for 5 min and got 3 oz and still felt really hard.
  • I co sleep with LO and he sleepy eats once or twice a night (doesn't fully wake) I would say it's the amount is equivalent of pump for relief or hand expressing for relief

My supply never regulated so I wake up engorged and leaky every morning. It's annoying but I count my blessings because it's a good problem to have!
Same here.  I feed LO at around 6pm before she goes to bed.  She doesn't wake up and eat until 5am so I am engorged in the morning.  If I wake up in the middle of the night I will go pump 2-3 ounces.
  • LO nurses & goes to sleep at 930. I have to get up to pump every morning at 330. I don't pump all of it bc at 4 LO gets up and nurses. I can't go longer then 6 hours without pumping. So even if he sleeps until 6, I'm still up at 330 pumping. I usually pump 9 oz if he doesn't nurse or 5-6 oz if he does.
