Mucus plug – quantity? (TMI)

Tuesday afternoon, I went to give a urine sample at my weekly OB appointment, and when I wiped, there was a quarter-sized amount of blood-tinged mucus. I was like, oh this must be the mucus plug! (I never saw it with my first baby, so I had no basis for comparison.) The next morning, though, after my first pee, there was a much huger glob of the same. Almost every time I wiped yesterday, there was more, and now this morning, another huge amount. I never heard the mucus plug being described as this… plentiful? I had thought it was a one-time thing. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

    No it can come out in pieces...the first time it was one big glob but the last time I lost it in pieces..this time I can't tell if I am already losing some or it is just increasing discharge...lol.
    Praying this little one sticks!

    So yeah, I've been reading that it can come out in pieces… it just seems like I've had a couple of HUGE globs and a bunch of little ones… so I guess I was wondering what the total volume of a normal mucus plug should be. :)

    jgilesslp I was curious as to what the mucus plug really was and wanted to know what it looked like so I could better recognize my own.. I google imaged it... BAD idea!! lol

    FTM so I have no idea, but now I'm tempted to google it! Maybe I'll just peek through my fingers like a scary movie!

    Mine came out in one big glob... But I didn't go into labor for another 4 days, so it kept coming out in small stringy pieces.  I think I read somewhere it grows back if you don't go into labor right away.

    I did google it as a FTM, definitely do not recommend that. Mine was about half a cup's worth. It was a lot and it was the grossest thing I've ever seen.

    Ewww! This is so gross but I can't stop reading these posts! I'm a FTM and at 40 weeks tomorrow but haven't seen anything yet as far as I can tell.

    Half a cup, okay. I feel like that's what I've shed in total, probably. I've read about the mucus plug but nothing's ever made it sound like it's quite so much, so I started to wonder what was happening. Thanks!

    And yes. Grossest thing ever.

    I've been told (by a midwife) it's about the size of a medium chicken's egg or about equal to a 4inch slug all-in.

    Mine's been coming out in scraps and probably regenerating in between so no idea how accurate this is but I'd believe my midwife on most internal things. 

    Easily the grossest part of pregnancy!
