So I thought I might actually have some nice hair this summer....supposed to be all shiney and luxurious.....pffft.....mine hasn't changed a bit. This is referring to our hair on our heads for those of you with your mind in the gutter ;)

Re: Has pregnancy changed your hair ?

  • I voted a little worse.  Before pregnant, my hair was pretty shiny and awesome.  Now I find it gets greasy faster.  Booooooo.  Might be a coincidence, but I choose to add it to my list of (wonderful) pregnancy grievances.

  • @ccam   what do you mean it changed drastically after having your first ?     It changed for good,  or it just temporarily changed for awhile right after baby was born ?

I always heard that hair was supposed to be nice during pregnancy,  but then shed like crazy after baby is born.     With the way mine is still shedding now,  I hate the thought of it shedding even worse after baby is born.   :(

  • I voted that my hair has stayed the same, but I have noticed some darker hairs popping up. I have very naturally blonde hair so whenever a dark hair appears, it's pretty obvious.

@mander82 I have a ton of thick hair and I normally lose a lot of it (it drives DH insane!), but the first six months after having DS it was even worse.  I still have patches of hair that are not the same length as the rest of my hair because of it and DS is almost 2!  I have more gray hair coming out, which has totally different texture, but that could be unrelated.  My hair dresser has noticed that my hair is a lot thinner than before DS, too.  Again, I had a ton to begin with so it doesn't look different, just feels it.  Not to scare you or anything ;)  Everyone is different!

  • My hair is different than before I was pregnant. It's growing much faster but doesn't look much different. It feels pretty awful too since I switched shampoos to a non-sulfate shampoo for while I'm pregnant.
  • My hair is much thicker which is a welcome change! It used to be thick up through high school and I could grow it out pretty long. After high school it started thinning and I hadn't been able to grow it much past my shoulders without it suffering :( I'm hoping the thicker hair stays!

This exactly! I have really thick hair and with my first pregnancy it got even more so. Plus super long and shiny. Then I had DD and that all went to pot. Losing handfuls at a time and dull and dry :( She's 1.5 and I am still losing a ton of hair and it is still dry. So is my skin. Pregnancy wrecked my skin and hair. She's worth it though and this one will be too :)

  • My hair has gotten worse. It has always been thick and shiny. I have had people touch it thinking it was fake. not a fan.

Now I am a grease ball!! It is probably cause I get hot all the time but geez. wash it in the morning I wake up the next day like crap! seriously
  • I voted that my hair is slightly better. I have very fine hair normally and it does seem a bit thicker lately. Also, I'm not losing as much hair as I used to in the shower etc. I'm anticipating it coming out in clumps once LO is here though- boo for that.
  • I voted slightly better - only because mine is super fine and thin already and I feel like I am shedding a little less... However, the gray has gone out of control. I finally got it dyed and highlighted last weekend and asked my hair guy what was up. All he could guess is that 1st tri was extra stressful (which it was) and said that the hormones wouldn't have caused the gray. Hopefully that part will slow down. Otherwise I'll have 3 hairs left on my head in December and all 3 will be gray!

  • My first pregnancy with my daughter, ugh I had to get deep conditioning about every two weeks. I was always asked if I had recently bleached my hair:(  hadn't dyed it in months! This round my hair is thicker and fine thank goodness! I would not have the time to do all the things with my hair that I could the first round lol
  • I think mine is the same but it's really hard to tell.  I'm a over a year over due for hair cut.  I'm still losing clumps of hair in the shower but I think it's mostly because that it's so long, thin  and curly that it tangles really easily and I'm just too damn lazy to try and brush it out before I go in the shower.  However I FINALLY made an appt tomorrow morning to get it cut...Nothing too drastic in length but the ends really need it and I'm tired of sitting on it lol

  • Definitely worse. I too am losing tons of hair, more than usual. It also just feels greasier for some reason. It might be the new shampoo I'm using, though. I'm one  of those people who HAS to wash her hair every day, and even with that it just feels nasty to me.
  • Changed. It keeps in falling out! I thought this was supposed to happen post partium. If this keeps up I am going be bald when this baby arrives.

  • I don't know if this is really "better", but my roots used to be super oily to the point where if I didn't shampoo every day it looked disgusting. Now I can go days without washing my hair and it looks fine (which is actually better because my hair is dry everywhere else). That's really the only difference I've noticed so far.

I have curly, thickish hair normally.  I had just recently started accepting my curls and let it be natural more often pre pregnancy. When I got pregnant, I was so excited mostly about having a LO, but a little about  having long, beautiful hair.  I didn't have any expectations about the texture becoming wavy and model-like, but I was excited about it growing faster so I could grow out the length (I got a bad haircut about the time I got pregnant).  No such luck.  Not only does it feel like it's growing more slowly, but the texture has worsened if anything, instead of my usual shiny spiral curls, the curls are abnormal and my hair is definitely more frizzy and greasy.  Oh well :)

I think that my hair growth as slowed.  I got it colored about 2.5 weeks ago now and I still haven't seen any roots (I'm already 50% gray - started in high school - so awesome).  Pre-pregnancy, I had to have it colored every 5 weeks.

I have noticed I'm losing significantly less than before, and I already had a TON of hair, and it's curly. It's going to be such a b**** this summer to keep it from looking like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket.

Given the above I'd classify myself as a special snowflake: less coloring = yay frizzy helmet = ugh
  • Mine seems to get darker with each pregnancy.  Otherwise it seems to be the same.
  • My first pregnancy, I swear my hair got so thick and shiny and pretty. Second pregnancy, so far, my hair has been falling out.
  • I haven't noticed any difference, but my hair was pretty thick to begin with.

  • Mine seems slightly thicker. After having DS my hair got wavy. It has always been straight as straw.

I voted slightly better but only because it doesn't seem to get oily as fast and it's not falling out as bad. Sadly it isn't seeming to be growing at all and I was really hoping to grow it out. Oh well.
  • My hair is SUPER dry. I've always had thick, curly hair but now it's just thick, frizzy and super dry. I've always heard that your hair is supposed to grow really fast while pregnant so I'm bummed. :(

Overall, mine is pretty much the same, except it gets much less greasy now. I can easily go three days between washes whereas before I needed to wash every day.
  • Definitely be prepared for major hair loss about 3-4 months postpartum- I had handfuls coming out in the shower and it totally freaked me out!

    BFP #1- 4/2011; DD Brynn born 12/2011

BFP #2- 7/13; EDD- 4/2/14; Lost DS at 20 weeks (11/16/13) due to cord accident

BFP #3- 3/14; EDD- 11/28/14; Lost DD at 15 weeks (6/7/14)- cause unknown

To my angels- I held you every second of your lives and I'll love you every second of mine.

  • You guys are freaking me out. My hair already falls out in ridiculous amounts. If it really gets worse I am going to be bald for Christmas.

This is so me right now.

I was so ready for that last time, but mine didn't start falling out as much until around 9 months or so, when DS dropped a few feedings while nursing.
