Absolutely not, and I judge people who don't put pants on their baby!

Re: Are onesies outfits?

  • I guess I should have said "are onesies a /complete/ outfit"

  • Isla always has pants on, but she has some onesies with ruffles on the butt, so I was curious about this as well. Maybe she can just wear those onesies at home, but they're kind of dressy.

  • I don't put dd in just a onesie as her outfit for the day, but thats usually what she ends up in by the end of the day. Usually it's leg warmers and a onesie to start with...so are leg warmers considered pants?? ;)
  • We live in Florida, LO gets too hot with anything other than a onesie on.
  • Most days, yep. It's been too hot for pants. I do have onsies with matching pants and I also match those together.

  • @NewMomma8‌ I have that outfit in 18 month size! So cute. That's a creeper/romper and meant to be worn alone.

Ok, now this post got me thinking.  Even though this is technically a onesie, we go out without shorts/pants.  So I would say the ruffle butt onesies are more like this kind of outfit.  Right??

I consider that to be an outfit and doesn't need to have pants or shorts.  But if we're going somewhere, I almost always pair pants with a onesie.

  • I say yes. But I'm also in GA and it's already in the mid to upper 80s and I have a hard time finding pants that fit, LO has a big belly and fluffy butt from CDs. I'm all about the onesie.
  • I say yes because it's Texas and 91 degrees here today! If we are going somewhere like church or out to lunch etc. I'll put him in an outfit or pants.
But home, grocery store, etc. It's a onsie!

  • Absolutely, yes! It was 110 degrees here earlier this week. Here's my LO now - we're going out to run errands in a few minutes. I think these Carter's onesies are adorable all by themselves.

  • It's hot as hell in FL so yes it's an outfit.
  • New Mexico is not only very hot in the summer, it's also VERY casual.  So we wear onesies most all the time, pants to dress it up or if we are going to be in the car/car seat for much time, because the belt rubs on her legs - but otherwise, between the spit-up and explosive poops I have to change her several times a day anyways.  Quite honestly, at home we are often just in a diaper.
  • Regular onesies with the angle cut legs are NOT an 'outfit'. (*complete outfit)
I might dress the kids in just a onesie at home, but them I'm usually dressed in relaxing clothes with no plans to go out if that's the case.

Both DSs have 'shorts' onesies that are one piece, but the bottom is shorts, just not separate. Ruffle butts for girls fall into this category for me as well,...these I consider a comets outfit.

If they aren't shorts or ruffle bottoms, I would always have pants/skirt of some kind on the kid.

Now that it's getting hot, I'll let him chill in a onesie at home or if we don't have the air on at night. If we go out though, I add shorts at least.

  • It was 96 here yesterday. Onesies are definitely outfits for Florida babies.

Hell, a diaper might be considered a complete outfit if it keeps my baby from sweating.

  • I'm with the other southern mommas. It's too hot for pants. I wish I could go outside without them some days.

  • I'm not even in the south; I'm in indiana! but it's been in the 80's and 90's here so a onesie is totally an outfit. I prefer anything that has buttons all the way down the front so rompers like that are much loved, but a nice cool onesie is a winner as well. On colder days lo is in a onesie with pants or a sleep 'n play.
How could I possibly make my lo dress in uncomfortable pants/shirts when I wear pajamas 90% of the time...and the other 10% is yoga pants. haha! but really, he's a baby. if I dress him up it's just to be cute, not as a necessary thing.

  • I had no idea anyone didn't just wear onesies! @desertmouse39‌ I am from NM too, maybe it is a cultural thing here?

I prefer a multi peice outfit but with this heat pants would feel mean. Her little back is always so sweaty when she comes out of her car seat. :-( Plus anytime H changes her the pants don't ever get put back on. And why fight not having to change a diaper?
  • Yea, I think they're outfits. I always pair them with shorts, pants, or a skirt though (unless we're just hanging out around the house).

  • I always put pants or shorts on with a onesie, but that's because it hasn't been too hot here in Boston.  I don't understand the people who judge you if your baby is in just a onesie.  Do they want you to overheat your child just so they don't have to see adorable chunky baby legs?  Baby thighs are CUTE!
  • I always put pants on AJ if we are leaving the house.  He rocks his onsies around the house all of the time.

Another New Mexican!!!!  Wow, I think we are the only two.  How old is your LO?  And yes, I do think that living here has something to do with our view on "onesies".  I've never lived some place more casual in dress, babies or adults, than Albuquerque.

Oh, it's pretty casual in our part of California. Here's an example - we moved here a few years ago from the east coast. We got invited to a 4th of July picnic, and my husband wore khaki shorts and a polo shirt. He was way overdressed! The other men wore basketball shorts and tshirts with the sleeves cut off. The wives were in the kitchen talking about how they trim their husbands' armpit hair. So I guess NM could be more casual than here if the men's armpit hair is ungroomed? ;)
  • We don't have central air, so when it's really hot, and since we don't have our window unit in downstairs yet, I have several times left him in a onsie all day.

If we go out I will usually at least put him in a romper or coordinating bottoms since usually places we go... and the car are air conditioned,  but if we just sit outside or go to the neighbors... onsie it is!

  • We cloth diaper DD and it's almost impossible to find pants/shorts that will fit over the diaper bubble butt. No pants here.

  • It is when they where socks ;)

LO runs hot so pants are s no go and he seriously has no legs so shorts are essentially pants

  • @desertmouse39‌ My LO will be three months on Wednesday. I can't believe it! What about yours?

@Pinecone21‌ I can't speak for all New Mexicans but I have certainly never trimmed my husband's armpit hair!
  • You can always put them in a bubble (appropriate for boys and girls), if you want something that won't cover their legs, (or require a band around the waist) and that is cute to go places in.
The only pic I could find of him wearing one you can't really tell bc he's sitting and wearing a bib.

She will be 11 weeks on Monday.  And I've never trimmed DH's pit hair either!
