What food to bring to block party?

Our block party is tomorrow.  I usually a bring a dessert to these things but they are having a sundae bar. What easy side dish can I bring that is easy to leave outside at room temp, at least for a while? Any ideas? Mom says broccoli/cauliflower/cherry tomatoes/black olives in Italian dressing.

  • The one your mom is talking about is delish - I make it with broccoli, cauliflower and mushrooms, though, tossed with Italian dressing and let sit in fridge overnight.

  • My go to is homemade bruschetta tossed into whole wheat pasta with grated parmesan. Mmmm! Although your mom's idea sounds really tasty too!

  • For ours last year, I did baked corn.

Boil a few ears of corn and cut the kernels off. Mix with a can of creamed corn, box of Jiffy cornbread mix, stick of butter, small tub of sour cream, and an egg. Bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes until "set". Delicious hot or room temp.

Not everyone can have ice cream - so my vote is to still bring a dessert - say watermelon or Rice Krispie Treats!!!

Along the lines of the corn - do "Cooler Corn" - Basically, you boil the water, put the corn in the cooler, then pour the water over the corn, let it sit for I think it's an hour (if you google it, you should be able to find out the length of time), dip in melted honey butter, and you have an awesome meal item!
