Anyone on Heparin?

Hey ladies,

So, I'm 36 weeks now (yay!), and have been switched from Lovenox to Heparin, in prep for the upcoming delivery. My dose is 5,000 Units twice daily. The actual ml volume comes up to be 1ml, which seems like a lot to me to for a SubQ injection. When I was on the Lovenox it was only like 0.3ml. What is your dose/volume that you inject? The two times/day part really sucks, too, btw!!!

    i'm not on heparin but I'm a nurse and administer it regularly.  5,000 units is pretty standard.  it's what i give 95% of the time, i would say.

    I am on Heparin as well.  Everything is the same as you.  I switched from Lovenox .40 dose at 36 weeks to .5mL in the morning and .5mL at night.  I feel like my skin is getting more sensitive to the injections lately...like I have poked every single place possible. 

    Curious if you are getting induced early.  Due to the blood clotting issue I have, I found out today I am getting induced at 39 weeks (to avoid blood clotting risks that would increase as time went on).

    Yeah, we had a growth scan today, and she's not growing as well as they would like. She's in the 19th%, and prev. she was in the 35th%. So, they did dopplers and a BPP, and those both looked good. Her BPP was 8/8. So, we scheduled an induction for 39 weeks, mostly b/c I had a fast labor with my first and I want to be sure to be able to get an epidural! But, I'm already 2.5cm and 80% effaced, with my cervix being behind her head, its so low! So... My Dr. doesn't think I'll make it to the induction, but you never know. But, in regards to the growth, we're going to do BPP's twice weekly til she comes.

    There are different concentrations of heparin.  The amount of ml's injected depend on the concentration.  My MFM had the pharmacy special order a more concentrated dose so the injection size was smaller.  I'm starting them on Monday 7,500 IU twice a day, just before my cerclage removal.  (I'm on Lovenox currently due to clotting issues)
