Intact boys and DC

Anyone else have an uncircumcised boy? Did you have a talk with your DCP about care? It hadn't occurred to me to tell them specifically not to try to retract the foreskin when cleaning him, but I was just reading some stories of caregivers doing this not knowing better and causing potential damage (and pain I'm sure). I'm horrified that anyone would do that, but I know that there are a lot of misconceptions about uncircumcised penises since it's not the norm. I'll definitely be discussing with my DCP tomorrow and adding explicit instructions to his sheet.

I worry about this all the time.... I didnt think about it until it happened to my friends son. Ive made it clear to anyone who watches him and his daycare to just leave it alone. I always check to make sure hes not red or irritated. I get so paranoid about just because people don't know, when I first made the decision to leave my son intact I myself didnt know that you were supposed to leave it alone when they're are so little. At first it seemed like an awkward thing to say to somebody but its totally necessary id be so upset if somebody was doing that to him.

  • Yes, I wrote it on his instruction sheet and talked to his DCP about it the first day I dropped him off. It's definitely worth mentioning.

  • We don't use daycare but I have definitely told anyone who might change his diaper (my sisters, SILs, both grandmothers...). The two grandmas were both surprised because they were instructed to pull it down to clean when they had their boys 25+ years ago. So it's definitely important to educate, since the guidelines were not always the same as they are today.
