So who's rocking the CDs so far? I know many people wait til LOs are bigger. What's working for you now? Whats not? How is it going in general?

We're part-time CDing - using disposables for night time, and CDs during the day. My faves now are my Kawaii P&Ns, which I didn't really like before I used them - they felt not as nice as some other dipes, but they fit amazing! Im also using Happy Hiney XS, BG XS, and THX NBs, as I only have 5 P&Ns.

LOVE A CD CHECK IN!

We have been CDing for about 2 weeks now. I waited until his stump fell off and his circ healed (on the vaseline!).

Took us a couple go's to get the wash routine down as the BF poop wasn't washing out. I had to swallow my frugal pride and use hot water instead, and since then its worked beautifully!

I only had 4 covers too (I'm an exclusive flat user) and that was dicey! My 6th one just came in the mail

I also had to sell my OS cover because it was purple and I prefer to have the same colours for both my OS and NB set ... I have issues!

I'll stop now ... I could keep going!

How often you changing LO? I change every 2-4 hours depending on if he's awake. I won't wake him to change if I hear a poo, which sucks as it always happens the minute he falls asleep.

Its not a lot of work, I do laundry for it like 2-3 time a week, plus a weekend load of our clothes (I go through tanks like crazy). Its tricky to keep up with folding (I fold all mine before putting away), but its working for us

I love a drying rack full of flats on a sunny day!

Tell them to suck it, cloth diapering is awesome.

We started once the circ healed, although we just came off a 24 hour period of disposables because he had a small diaper rash (feel so bad about that!) and I think I remember that the diaper creams can impact absorbency? Anyway, we're back on track with cloth and using coconut oil to hopefully protect against future rashes. My husband hated the cloth at first but is a pro now. I was intimidated by the laundry routine at first, but like so many other things, it gets easier after you just do it once. My only regret is that I had two cute NB size covers that he never got to wear because he was too big. I was able to pass those along to another CD momma though, so it all worked out.

Yeah we're the same. Except he hates a poopy diaper or a really wet one (hope for a quick toilet train lol). Hopefully that changes for you soon

We were exclusively cloth diapering from 2 weeks until the other day. LO is currently sick in he hospital, so we are back to sposies for a few days.

LO is in prefolds, kawaii P&Ns and LGBs, and workhorses at home. We just tried out his best bottoms, and those worked great too. I'm laundering every other day, even though I have more changes. We've used CJs when his bottom looks pinker than usual, and haven't had any rash issues this far. I'm loving cloth and DS cute tush!

I'm thinking I may stick to disposables for a few days once we get home from the hospital. I'm worried about yeast from the antibiotics. Anybody have an opinion on this?

Antibiotics don't cause yeast, but antibiotics do wipe out all the good bacteria leaving room for yeast to grow in overdrive. That imbalance is what causes thrush. You can help prevent thrush by ensuring that you are taking good probiotics if you are breast-feeding. Baby can also take probiotics safely- there are certain infant specific probiotics at health food stores, or you can open the capsule and just dip your finger in the powder, then let baby suck on your finger. Don't use a whole capsule but just give him a taste and take the rest your self. Just because baby is on antibiotics doesn't mean that he will get thrush, but keep an eye out for a very Red butt or a white tongue.

Yay CD check-in!!

We got off to s slow start because of Colin's broken arm - he was all wrapped up around his whole torso to secure his arm, so the CD covers were a bit too high rise and covered the bandages. Luckily we held on to a couple of packs of disposables from my baby shower, so we were good until we figured out how to wrap him up better/higher.

Most of our NB stash is prefolds, which we were really aren't too fond of, so we were only doing a few cloth diapers a day since I only had a few flats. The prefolds are fitting a bit better now that he is growing, so I'm liking them better. We are using disposables at night for ease, because we really just have flats and prefolds and covers. But I ordered 8 fitteds which should come next week, so night time changes will be easier then.

In super fun CD news: I enter this weekly give away from Glow Bug diapers (they make pocket diapers). I found out 2 days after Colin was born (we were still in the hospital) I won that week's give away!! What great timing!! I won a boy print pocket diaper - I hope it comes soon ...

I've been really bad about CD. I used them for a bit and then super-procrastinated on laundry, so he's been in disposables for a bit. Now that he's bigger, he can start sharing the one-size stash with his brother, so it should be a bit easier. I just need to actually do my laundry.

I had purchased a bunch of prefolds for the NB stage, but I realized I really prefer AIOs and fitteds for this stage because of the liquid poo. Now that he's huge already, I'll probably start selling off the NB stash, since I don't think I'd use those again even if we have more kids.

I was the opposite - I thought I wouldn't need NB covers ... holy was I wrong. I put the OS on him when he got circ'd (since he leaked from the vaseline) and they were HUGE!

We started at 1 week after his circ was healed. We did prefolds and covers but he outgrew them quickly. We are now using flips while I work on getting more pockets made. I'm going through diapers like crazy! Lol

One thing that surprises me is that even tho we're doing about 50/50, we're still going thru disposables like crazy! Argh! I hate it. Luckily most of them were given to us, and we only bought a few, it still makes me crazy to use them.

I too will be happy when DS can share DD's OS dipes, but since we have the Kawaii NBs, we won't have to. But we're potty trg DD now, so we may only have 1 in dipes soon. Not too sure how I feel about that TBH!

Also, my DH never does them up quite tight enough and then exclaims "hes SOAKED!!!" when there is a tiny leak. Ugh. But he's good with them otherwise!

So excited there is a CD check in! We have been doing prefolds and covers mostly, have either thirsties size one or rumparooz. We also have 8 Charlie Banana pocket diapers which we have been using for over nights. We have used sposies here and there just while we are out and about, but not much. I do not like prefolds as much as I was hoping. Tobias is not good about letting me know when he needs a change and I feel like a lot of times I check he is soaked, so I have to try and keep up on it. I really like the pocket diapers but think I need doublers for overnights because the last couple nights he has leaked out onto his pjs.But we have been doing pretty well otherwise, wash routine isn't too bad, definitely getting the hang of it. I am looking forward until he fits into his OS, we have a variety of brands so I could see what we liked best.

We have been in cloth since we ran out of the diapers from the hospital! I think it was day 3 or so. I'm actually doing worse keeping them in cloth right now. DS1 has just healed up from a really nasty rash that had him in disposables for about a week or so. And DS2 sleeps so long at night that our NB cloth can't hold it all, so he has sposies for nighttime. We just sized up to our small diapers and hopefully we can switch back to cloth for nighttime.

We use a mix of prefolds and pockets, but about half of my large pockets for DS1 need snaps replaced. I'm currently procrastinating doing it...

@anniemore You can use a microfleece liner to help keep baby feeling dry longer. It seemed like this was the age when both my boys started noticing that they were wet and it bothered them at first. But the liners helped just enough that it didn't bug them as much.

Nope. Not unless you use a non cd safe diaper cream.

Yeah. We have only bought one pack of diapers for ourselves thus far, an 4 pack of Up & Up brand since we're using disposables at night. I thought that huge pack would last so long ... I'm shocked that I only have a few nights of diapers left!

I have to go buy more too, since we're going to my in laws this weekend, I figure it is just easier to use disposables for the whole weekend since we use them at night anyway. But that's it! I hope the 2 packs we have paid for ourselves (after shower gifts) will be our last. After we go through those and what we have I'm hoping the fitteds I ordered arrive this coming week and we won't need the disposables anymore.

@athn64 we use Bummis fleece liners and they are amazing at keeping LO's bum dry. They are only $5-6 for a 5 pack and I would highly recommend them! We have 10 right now but I'm planning to get at least one more 5 pack.

Kawaii is our go-to for DD, so we have tons. I got the P&N and LGB, but only the P&Ns fit now, and the LGBs give us leg gaps now... might try the twist for a better fit.

We've been CDing DD2 since 4 days. Mostly flats in the beginning since I didn't care for the NB PF. Now a mix of still mostly flats at home with some small PF mixed in and Fitteds at night but the past two nights she leaked out of GMD small WH. The SBISh seems to do better.

Have a little bit of everything to rotate in. Love our NB simplex and like the Thirsties sz 1 AIO more then I thought I would. Also have been testing out some OS since she's over 10lbs. Again like the simplex and also NBGE. Have Decided I'm not a fan of pockets, but will be using P&N at daycare while I build our OS stash so will have to deal with them for now. I'm trying to be patient because I know my views will probably change as she grows!

Bumping this, because I have a problem.   I'm going to XP on the CD board as well.

Our diapers have a funky smell. The smell is not ammonia-y and not necessarily poop-y. It almost smells like a musty towel mixed with a toot.   Nice, eh?   They smell ok coming out of the laundry, but LO's body heat seems to activate the smell. Also, we're using coconut oil with each diaper change, and I think while it smells so yummy at the time, that the smell of that is mixing with the funk smell and creating a not nice combo. We're only a little over 3 weeks in (we used disposables for the first several days).   I didn't think I'd need to do a stripping or special treatment this soon, so I'm thinking that I'm screwing something up in the wash cycle or maybe not using the right soap?   Per the city, our water is "moderately-hard". I'm using Ecos detergent based on a recommendation of a friend that lives in the same city and CDs, but I've read mixed reviews of this detergent with hard water (https://community.babycenter.com/post/a26074421/ecos_detergent).

That long-ass narrative leads me to my question.    I'm not opposed to switching detergent of course, but will that alone fix the smell or do I need to strip or bleach or do anything else first?

I have a front-loader. My current routine is to prewash on delicate, cold water, with two soaked bath towels, no spin.
Then, I wash on normal cycle, hot water, cold rinse, with detergent and extra cold rinse.

We came home from the hospital and the first thing we did was put on a fluffy bum I can't believe how big she has already gotten, the only part of her nb stash that she can still wear are her Assunta Tiny covers. Everything else has been sold I cried a little.

Right now we are using mostly Freetimes and Little Butts. I'm more of a Best Bottoms girl, but her Best Bottoms aren't fitting awesomely yet. So for now we're rocking the AIOs.

Im selling my THX NBs now too! My elementals are still way too big. Im loving the fit on my Kawaii NBs now... I hate that they're called NB dipes, bc they do fit up to 22lbs. I wish I had more tho, as Im washing every other day, and would prefer every 3 days

You need a spin to drain all the poopy water before the normal wash.

Also. Maybe your first wash should be quick wash not delicate. You need agitation to loosen all the poop. And your normal wash be a super wash.

ETA if that doesn't work try a mainstream detergent like tide or gain. I personally don't see the need for apecial detergents unless LO skin says otherwise.

^ thanks! That was the consensus on the CD board too. I washed everything with RLR last night and then ran them through the full routine, with a different detergent. Hopefully, we're back in business.
