Honestly I wouldn't settle on any one type of bottle. We tried 4 kinds before we found one that my son liked. We ended up using the playtex bottles with the drop in liners. He did not like the Tommy Tippies or Advents at all.
I'm a FTM...everyone recommended Avent....but they all said let the baby decide. I'm trying out the new Kiinde system for pumping...for the convenience. So far it's gotten decent reviews.
Only your baby can answer or decide that. My only recommendation would be not to buy a lot of one kind and try not to introduce the bottle too soon. If you do baby may not want to go back to breast as the bottle tends to be easier. Also have someone else use bottles to feed, not you...that usually helps with confusion since they know you have breast milk and your giving a bottle. Sorry if this doesn't make sense...it's just after 5:30am!
If I've learned anything from previous bottle discussions on TB, it's that you never know what'll work for your LO. With that in mind I registered for a couple of each of the most highly recommended bottles. Advent, Tommee Tippee, Born Free, etc. I would hate for someone to buy a generous gift, like a huge bottle starter kit, just to find that LO can't use that kind of bottle and not be able to return it. Once we've narrowed it down, then I'll invest in just one kind of bottle.
I bought generic bottles from Target, Walmart, wherever, but I used Dr. Brown nipples for the first 6 months. After that he would take any kind of bottle/nipple.
I also registered for multiple starter packs (with just the bottles, not all of the other misc stuff that comes with some of them). That way, we can try out different ones and see what she likes best.

I'm a FTM, so I don't know much about this yet, but my Nephew loved his Dr. Brown bottles and nipples. He wouldn't latch to my SIL and she wasn't producing enough milk for him either, so they went to bottles early and he took to them right away.
Ditto PP - buy little packs of bottles to see what baby likes before going out and buying an entire set. My SIL registered for and received a huge set of Avent bottles at her shower and her baby didn't like them so she had to go out and buy new ones. Popular brands are the Playtex drop ins, Tommy Tippee and Born Free. And when you do find out what he likes, make sure to buy the larger size bottles because you will need those eventually anyway.

What they said...register for a few different brands and see what works best.
And, just for a bit of fun, I registered for several brands and didn't' get one single bottle from three different showers! But I got 4560780 blankets!
