Actual semi boring parenting question about bedtime

I don't know what has been going on lately, but P used to go to bed just fine. We could put her in her crib at bedtime and she would talk to herself for a few minutes and then pass out easily. For the past week or so, she starts crying when we even get close to her bed. Once in it, she throws a huge ass tantrum, throwing her hippo lovie and blanket across the room. We have tried earlier bedtime, later bedtime, rocking, stroller walking, ibuprofin (I'm thinking her canines are about to pop through) and none of it is helping. She calms down fine when you pick her up, and it's been taking H sitting in there with her laying her down and rubbing her back to get her to fall asleep. If I go in there, she just screams until I pick her up.

I mentioned in the FFFC thread that she had thrown up in her crib and we didn't realize it and she slept in it all night (or a good portion of the night). I feel like she's afraid it's going to happen again and I ruined my baby. I'm logistically hoping this is not the case, but do you think it could be? Any advice? We did CIO when she first moved to her crib a year ago, and it worked in just a few days, but for some reason I'm hesitant to do it again now that she's older.

  • 18 months is a big sleep regression point.   IIRC, we had to do a few nights of re-ferberizing with DS around that time

    2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
    TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
    Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • At least I'm not alone. I feel so guilty, but I checked the monitor when I heard that she had woken up, and I couldn't see anything unusual in her bed, and she was laying back down and fell back asleep pretty quickly. I guess vomit doesn't show up on night vision :( Now I'm super paranoid and go check every time I hear the slightest noise.

  • This pretty much describes my last two weeks (except for the vomit bit). We let it go on for a week because this is her teething MO and it usually resolves itself; however we decided to ferberize for the first time ever this week and it started working in 3 days. She's almost 2. You did not ruin your baby. Good luck!

  • I hope it's just typical sleep regression, I didn't realize that was something that happened now. It seems like it's bedtime in general. On a few of these nights, H tried to get her to fall asleep on him in our bed, and as long as she's awake and with someone, she wants to play and talk. If she's alone, she cries. I think trying the pnp might be a good idea though, since we're going on vacation soon and she'll have to sleep in it anyway. I totally cheat ferber too, I also pick her up until she calms down.
    Thanks for the tips/commiseration!

  • Damn, quick google search on the 18 month sleep regression describes her behavior exactly, I never even thought to check! Thanks Parenting! Glad to know this is normal, even if it sucks.
