The Battle of The Swaddle and Paci

I'm losing the battle. LO will ONLY sleep if swaddled, but can now brake out like a champ. The few times she CAN'T get out, she screams until I get her. So, how have you transitioned OUT of the swaddle. It has to happen soon, but she will only sleep for about 30 minutes at a time with her hands out. Any magic techniques I'm not aware of? I know we've talked about swaddle/no swaddle so forgive me if it's one of those threads. I just need to game plan for tonight.

Also, she LOVES the soothi paci, but I'm sick of having to hold it in her mouth. What brands of other pacis have you transitioned to from the soothe that your LO will latch on to?

Re: The Battle of The Swaddle and Paci

  • I googled transitioning out of swaddle and it said try one arm out til they're cool. Then the other. (So swaddle the belly)

All the babies here love a variety of binkies. My child happens to like the mam.

  • Thank you both! (totally losing my mind this morning trying to get her to nap and should have googled first, ha!)  I'll try the one arm out plan tonight and had not heard of the wubbanub.
  • My LO loves the nuk pacis. Hates soothies and the wubbanub.

  • We only swaddle at night. She sleeps either in the bouncy chair or crub without being swaddled during the day. Good luck

  • we nap minus the swaddle, only swaddle at night, and just moved to a swaddleme so she doesn't break out. She seems to not like it for about 30 seconds at first and then conks right out.

Ours never liked the soothie so im not sure if our babies will have similar taste, but she loves the Tommee Tippee flow ones for 0-3 months. the cut down at the nose, since she was smaller the soothie covered her nose and frankly like half her face, so shes always liked these better.

  • Not to hijack the thread but my question is sort of related. We need to stop swaddling cause LO breaks out and has rolled over in the swaddle and without. I'm extremely nervous for what will happen if she rolls onto her belly in her sleep. She doesn't yet seem to understand the whole "your your head to the side" concept. The two times she rolled she was awake and started to cry and I ran right in. I'm worried she will roll onto her face when she's sleeping and not realize and try to sleep face-planted in the mattress. Am I nuts? I feel like I'm going to be watching her all night on the monitor (and my DH will kill me cause he thinks I'm totally wacky!)
  • We used the Swaddle Me's for a while and now the Halo. I just tried the one arm out for a nap and it worked AWESOME. I've tried swaddling both out before and it just didn't work. Such great, common sense advice! Makes me feel like my brain has officially turned to mush that I didn't think of trying that before. ha!

  • I think I'm probably the weird one out- we still swaddle for naps but not at night! It calms him down almost instantly (hence nice for naps,) but once he wakes up he will wiggle out of it, making it annoying when he wakes up middle night.

I Swaddle in the love me Swaddle for naps and bed time. We use a wubanub for both as well but he is falling out of love with his Paci.
  • We're on night two of trading the swaddle for a sleep sack. So far so good, but J has always been the type to sleep arms out. He's also a fan of the MAM pacifiers.

I wish I had an answer for you @stacyacker22 since J is so close to rolling himself (he gets onto his side easily). Maybe try to do more tummy time during the day and put a toy she likes off to the side so she has to turn her head to see it? I have no idea if this will help her figure it out but I'm going to try it myself.

  • Thank you! I'm also going to ask the pedi this week his opinion!
