Sling/carrier

Which have u gone for and y?

Re: Sling/carrier

  • We are also planning to use the Ergo. We have purchased one already & have the other on our registry. I would also like to try a wrap for when the twins are newborns, I'm just not sure which one is best!

  • With DS1, we used a ring sling from Sleeping Baby Productions when he was a newborn and then moved up to the Ergo.  Both worked well and were comfortable for myself or DH.  They do make a newborn insert for the Ergo, so that's something to consider.

  • I had a Moby and an infantino. Loved the Moby but the infantino was uncomfortable. I want to get an Ergo for this baby so I'll have the Moby for when she is really young and the Ergo for when she is a little older and can hold her head up.

  • I registered for a Moby Wrap, Ergo 360 and a NAVA sling. The thought is that they will serve different purposes and and work for different situations and ages.

  • I have a Moby and an Ergo.
Me too.  The Moby was awesome for tiny baby stage, but I'm making myself a k'tan right now in hopes of getting the comfort of a wrap without actually having to wrap it.  We'll see how this goes.  I'm pretty sure I could still back carry DD in the Ergo now.  That thing is siiiiick.  I love it.

My mom has made me two moby wraps and I'm going to have her make some ring slings before October, too! I'm weirdly excited to baby wear!

  • A ring sling and a moby-ish wrap.  My mom is making the ring sling for me, and the wrap is a strip of cotton/spandex material I bought.  It's 5 yds long and 21 inches wide.  I prefer nursing in the sling, but I find both comfortable to wear.

I have the Moby and the Ergo.  I love both of them!  The Moby does take some getting used to with the wrapping.  I suggest checking out some youtube videos and practicing with a stuffed animal/doll before your LO gets here.  I used the Moby with my boys until they were big enough for the Ergo w/o the infant insert.  I found the infant insert hard to use and made my boys sweat big time (impressive considering they were both winter babies!).  My trick with the Moby, is that I'd wrap it before I went anywhere.  Do Not try to put it on in the parking lot!!

The Ergo was great once the boys hit about 3-4 months.  I loved that it was a bit more structured and supportive.  I love that it has a head shield to protect from rain or sun, and a storage pocket too.  I love being able to throw my keys and wallet in the front and not have to carry another bag for a quick trip. DH is also willing to use the Ergo, but he wasn't so keen on the Moby.  Honestly, we still use the Ergo with DS#2, and used it with DS#1 up until he was about 2 when we went hiking or for a long walk.

  • I have an ergo & baby hawk. Moby was close second!
  • Does anyone have recommendations for good quality brands of ring slings?
  • I have a Babybjorn on my registry, but y'all are making me nervous that I need to change it to Ergo. I just can't imagine someone buying me that for that much money. We don't go places. I don't know how much I'll use it...

  • @theresat858 - Thanks for the rec. I'll check her stuff out, it looks like she'll be reopening soon. Is there a reason to do the wrap conversion instead of one of her other ones?

And yeah, I was definitely not going to get one from some random Etsy seller.

  • We had a Snugli for DD but we found a Beco Butterfly 2 at a consignment sale for only $60! So we bought it. :)

  • I love the Moby for newborns, then the Ergo. My Ergo has gotten so much use, I would say it's my favorite baby buy. EVER.

  • Anyone use and like the Boba wrap? We used the ergo with dd but I'd like to get something a little more newborn friendly.

  • @Di_126‌ wow I'm impressed you can carry your 2 year old in the front comfortably and you are pregnant. My DD is short and not very heavy and I stopped being able to carry her in the front comfortably at around 13 months. Before that I could walk for a couple hours without back discomfort.

DD hated the Ergo with the infant insert until about 6 months and then she liked it and I carried her everywhere from 6 months to about 13 months when I couldn't wear her as comfortably in the front. She doesn't like being carried in the back as much. I think I'll buy a k'tan and a ring sling to use during the early stage for this baby.

  • The mei tire, can it b used for newborns?
  • Wow, I went and looked at the Becco Gemini after reading this thread. I think it looks really nice and comfy!

I've registered for a k'tan, but I might treat myself to the Becco. I was thinking ergo, but this one looks good.
  • @theresat858‌ how did you wear a newborn in the Becco? Did you do the recommended wide leg stance, or froggy?
  • Ive only used a moby for my boys, but I plan to use it this time as well.. I also have the infantino mai tei and I bought an ergo.. :) gonna wear baby like crazy :)
  • I got this one off of Etsy:
     https://www.etsy.com/listing/114918552/organic-cotton-baby-wrap-sling-carrier?ref=favs_view_5

It's similar to the Moby but I loved the white fabric and how light weight it is for living in AZ. Even in October we are still pushing high 80's to low 90's so something light is perfect. Plus I get to support a small business.

  • So, I've registered for the Beco Gemini as well as a Boba wrap. And I know I won't REALLY know how I feel about them until I'm actually using them IRL. I also sorta want a ring sling, too. But then I just feel like that's a bit excessive. :)

  • For my first I had a Beco Butterfly II and then got a Didymos woven when he was a few months old. That worked out really well.

I have a lot more right now and I'm trying to pare down to just what I want for next baby ;)

I will say that at least currently kinderpack and tula holds value better than boba/ergo/beco if you decide you don't like and want to resell or for selling down the line, but can't say it will be like that still 6 months or a year from now.

Same deal with wrap conversion slings holding value better than maya wrap for instance.

I prefer woven wraps over stretchy wraps. The moby is kinda nice for teeny baby but it's hot and I found it a lot harder to deal with than woven, partially because of how long it is and partially because of the stretch.
