2nd Trimester

14 weeks, weight loss

Hi fellow mommies! I am new to the bump and this is my first post so just bear with me if this question has already been asked ;) I am 14 weeks and 2 days, I lost 13 pounds in my first trimester (morning sickness was terrible!) and I have still not started gaining. I am also not showing in the least bit. Can someone give me a peace of mind to hold me over til my appointment on Monday?! Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated :) thank you in advance! Can't wait to get to know all of you & interact on this site!

Re: 14 weeks, weight loss

  • Completely normal. I'm almost 28 weeks and just started to gain. On Monday your doctor will tell you whether or not you should be concerned, so until then just make sure you are maintaining a healthy diet.

I'm 19 weeks and am just getting back to my pp weight.  And with my first pregnancy, I didn't really show until 20ish weeks.  This time, it was around 18 weeks.  I didn't show either time at 14 weeks.  I'm sure you're fine, but your doctor will mention if there is an issue.  At my 13 week appointment, I was still down 5 lbs, and my midwife didn't say anything.

  • In my last pregnancy and this one, I was down 17 lbs at one point; last time, I ended up with a net gain of 2 lbs, and my daughter was 8lb 12oz at birth. This time, at 18 weeks, I'm still down about 14 lbs, but my doctor isn't concerned because the baby is growing and healthy (and actually measured a few days ahead at 12w). If you were underweight to start with, it could be an issue, but otherwise, you'll probably just be advised to do your best to eat healthy foods, and the weight will eventually come back.
  • I was still losing weight at 14 weeks (morning sickness and food aversion were really bad for me). Overall, I lost 20lbs before I started gaining any back. I'm 24 weeks now, and have only gained about 6-7lbs back, so I'm nowhere near my prepregnancy weight but baby is developing normally so I'm not too worried about it.

I'd say it's normal and just do your best to make healthy decisions. Some people gain a lot of weight, some people don't gain as much weight. It's just how your body does pregnancy. And your bump will come. DH says that I didn't really pop or look pregnant until about 22-23 weeks, but I noticed the small bump sooner.

  • I'm 24 weeks tomorrow and finally passed my prepregnancy weight yesterday. I lost about 10 lbs in first tri, then slowly have been gaining it back since week 18. My MW was not concerned, and chuckled and assured me I'd make up for it in late 2nd early 3rd tri.

  • I am 18 weeks now and my morning sickness has finally started going away. I lost 20 lbs and my OB showed no concern whatsoever. My OB told me that I would start gaining around 20 weeks and if not, then that's when he would be concerned.
This is my second pregnancy and being 18 weeks, I look GIANT compared to my first even with the weight loss. Our bodies are different and handle pregnancy different.
  • I lost about 8 lbs in the first trimester, am about 17 weeks and still have not gained any back. Also most people don't show at 14 weeks so that isn't anything to worry about. I didn't start really showing until about 6 months with my first pregnancy. This time around I am just now starting to get a small bump.
