moms of boys.. advice needed

DS2 has a fat pad which causes a hidden penis. The skin adhered and at his 4 month appt today, the dr was able to pull all the skin and detach it (we were pulling back each change but she said I wasn't pulling it back enough).

She said he should eventually grow out of it and to just pull back gently and put Vaseline on it for the next day. Well tonight he screamed when I put Vaseline on. I gave him tylenol but he still seems uncomfortable.

Has anyone dealt with this? How long should I put Vaseline on? A day doesn't seem long enough. How long will it take to heal now? I've ugly cried because I feel like a failure. DS1 didn't have any issues so I don't know. Thank you

  • @TyrannosaurusLex‌ yes. It adhered because of the fat pad/hidden penis.

  • I'm not familiar with this situation. Can I ask where the fat pad is located. Is that near the head or close to body by the base of the penis? I did some googling but was nervous about too many clicks giving info I don't want!

Even though I'm not familiar I can say that this is not your fault! Hugs mama.

I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • DS had adhesion issues with his circumcision (but no fat pad). Like you we were told to put Vaseline on it for a day or two after each adhesion issue. After we saw a pediatric urologist we were to use Vaseline at each change for a month and that one day was NOT long enough.

Can you see a pediatric urologist?

  • Totally not your fault! DS1 also had a slight adhesion and we pulled it back like your pedi did. We used Vaseline until he seemed comfortable. It didnt take too long for it to heal up for him (maybe a week or so), but we had to keep a close eye on it for a while to make sure it didnt re-adhere.
  • Thank you everyone. He did calm down until the next diaper change. I've been lathering on the Vaseline and he screams each time. It takes awhile for him to calm down. I'm going to pick up some advil today.

The fat pad is right above his penis so it pushes the skin over the top. Dr said he should eventually grow out of it. The ped dr said we don't need to see a urologist yet unless he gets older and it hasn't corrected itself. I just hate seeing him in pain. I'll keep using the Vaseline since it won't hurt anything. Thank you everyone

  • I've had to pull back the skin on DS1 and now too with DS2. It may help when he has a bath too to pull the skin back and let warm water clean it. I'm guessing since it adhered it may be irritated? Maybe that's why he's in pain so much. I can totally understand though and you are not in the wrong! I had no idea with my first son at all. And keep putting that vaseline/aquaphor on there.

  • It will get better, DS1 had this and we continued to put Vaseline on each night until he was 2 just to be safe. He is totally 'normal' down there now but I the beginning we really had to force the skin down. Like others said, it's not your fault.

  • Ds3 had the top part of his circ adhere. He is now 5 and it still is slightly attached, the doc said over time it will "unbond" I feel bad, so I know what you mean. Keep up what they suggested, wish I would have found out about my sons sooner and done something.
