In sooo much pain from my hip :-(

I was diagnosed with pelvic girdle pain (pgp) about 3weeks ago and saw a physio, have a support belt and exercises today. Im a nurse and im on my feet for 12.5hrs. Yesturday i had to come home early n work gave me a really hard time and although this is my 1st absance in pregnancy they said i should think about reducing my hours, i was so upset. Ive woken up today in excruciating pain if i move, as long as i stay still its a dull ache but thats impossible all day. :-( anyone else had/have this? Anything u found that helped?

  • I've not had that but it sounds awful. I hope you can find something that helps.  Is there a way for you to work shorter shifts but more days?

  • Ouch! I've never had anything like that but the first thing that comes to mind is when you sleep are you putting a pillow between your legs?
    Hopefully you find some relief!
  • Aww, so sorry you are in pain. Can you reduce hours? I am a nurse as well, and reduced hours at the end of my first pregnancy (to 8's). It might make a BIG difference shaving 4 hours off standing time.

  • I have SPD which is very similar. It got me on bedrest twice last time. The only thing I suggest is wear the belt and on your days off do basically bedrest. It will help you get through work days.

It hurts me more if I stop moving after I get going but then the next day will be worse than the last, double edge
  • Ugh I am so sorry you're going through this. I have some patients using canes, etc. Some of them say that PT helps? I really hope you find some relief soon. And I'm sorry you're about your job.

  • I've been hit with really bad hip pain too. Last week was really bad, Friday I was in tears. Monday I went to the chiropractor, that helped relive some pressure, but I still had slight pain. I also use a full body pillow when I sleep, not having it between my knees always causes my hips to hurt when I lay down. Tuesday I started a yoga DVD and that has been my saving grace this week. I did a 23 minute hip opener, that night I no pain at all and it was beautiful! Wednesday I did the same thing and so far so good. I had some slight pain yesterday but that was mostly but it went away when I stretched. Hope you find something that works for you, the hip pain is no joke!

Prenatal yoga may definitely be worth the effort, but it might take a few sessions for it to pay off.

  • Ive just been signed off work for 2weeks from my doctor because of it n she wanted to give me more really. I tried swimming a couple of weeks ago and it made it so much worse, i have a prenatal yoga dvd but that started to hurt so stopped about a month ago but might b worth having another go. I sleep with a body pillow which does help but hopefully my rest will help. Thanks everyone
  • A chiro might be able to help. Mine did wonders for me during my first pregnancy and I'm almost ready to go back to him this time around.
