LO eating enough?

I FF & was reading to gauge about 2.5oz per pound of body weight. According to that my LO should be eating 27.5iz a day, she usually has about 20oz a day... She seems fine, at her last appt she was only measuring in the 26th percentile for weight.

Just worried though dr said she is developing great (I just started logging her bottles 3 days ago so I didn't know this & didn't share this with my dr)

Re: LO eating enough?

  • As long as she seems satisfied, then you're probably good.  I BF and pump milk into bottles for when I'm at work, and I honestly have no idea how much LO is eating in ounces.  When he's hungry, we feed him :-)

  • By definition, some babies have to be in the lower percentiles. The only reason this would be a cause for concern is if she was in say the 80th percentile on the last visit. One of the nice things about BF, we can't be concerned about how much they are drinking cause we don't know!

If baby is happy and the Dr isn't concerned and you're getting the right amount of diapers per day then I wouldn't worry about it. They let you know when they're hungry so if baby wasn't ok with the amount of food, you'd hear more screaming or crying.

I EP and baby takes about 25oz a day (I pump 40 and offer whenever I see hunger cues). She still went from 95th percentile in weight to 68th in one month, but ped is not concerned. She's happy and healthy and gaining at her own pace! Sounds like your daughter is doing the same :)

  • Thanks all!! I always keep offering her more during a feeding until she pushes the bottle away and I take it as she is done.... she seems happy and fine after a feeding and sleeps 10-12 hours a night straight through.

Jessimax wish I could have BF (then maybe I wouldn't be so concerned about her intake too!) but, my milk took 2 weeks to come in since she was early, then I pumped and recently I had to go on a medication and my BM is dwindling. Still pumping and if I get an ounce a day, that is great :o( disappoints me each day

If she's sleeping that well I doubt there's an issue. Sounds like she's doing great!
